As part of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Manager, Expense Management, Global Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), supports the expense management team in financial planning and forecasting processes. They will play a critical role in the Global Finance organization by conducting financial analysis (ad-hoc, forecast, profit & strategic plan) and supporting insightful, timely and informative financial reporting. The senior manager is also responsible for supporting the Bank's forecast and annual profit planning processes, specific to Expenses and Staffing, maintaining financial models and systems, and preparing effective and insightful presentations for senior executives.

 

 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Support Global FP&A Director, Expense Management and VP in ad-hoc analyses, which require data analytics and financial modeling
  • Develop presentation materials for executive management, simplifying complex financial concepts into visual representations, following presentation design best practices  
  • Play a key role in the preparation of the Bank's profit & strategic plan, forecasts, as well as of power point presentations to executive management
  • Review and analyze business line and All-Bank, plan, forecast and actual financial results and prepare and review a range of financial reporting
  • Participate in month-end, quarter-end and year-end activities, including preparation of internal materials for executive management
  • Primary point of contact for Expense Policies, including preparation of materials and updates for Quarterly Expense Policy Committee meetings. Managing Expense Policies mailbox and maintaining timely response to inquiries
  • Play a key role in the implementation of FP&A transformation projects and identify opportunities to leverage technology to improve analytics and reporting
  • Support technology solutions and the Bank’s technology roadmap for automation, driver-based modeling, and scenario modeling
  • Build strong relationships and interact with stakeholders across the forecast and planning process, including FP&A business line teams, corporate functions finance, capital management and GRM to ensure deadlines are met and forecast and planning information is accurate
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

 

Strong analytical skills to identify and evaluate trends and other financial information, and to make recommendations to executive management

•Superior communications skills to convey key messages, both verbal and written with a proven track record of building presentation material for a senior executive audience

•Superior Excel spreadsheet skills to update, enhance and develop new models; and superior PowerPoint skills to convey key messages and charts in report presentations to senior management

•Strong inter-personal skills in dealing with all levels of management. 

•Sound accounting knowledge to understand accounting performance measurement targets.

•Strong attention to detail in updating and developing financial models, system enhancements and to ensure a consistent quality of reporting to Executive Management

•Experience with Anaplan, financial transformation initiatives and/or project management considered an asset

•Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau and citizen-led automation initiatives (e.g. Alteryx) considered an asset

•Post secondary degree in Finance and Accounting with 5+ years banking experience

•Accounting or post graduate designation (e.g. CPA, MBA or CFA) preferred

•Strong understanding of financial planning and forecasting best practices; broad based understanding of the Bank’s business lines, products, and financial processes an asset
