Purpose

 

Leads and oversees the global definition and vision to deliver a unified experience for the ScotiaConnect API’s platform.   This role will lead a team to strategize, assess, and prioritize digital propositions for clients and partners through ScotiaConnect API’s. Manage and collaborate with Product Owners to establish execution priorities based on the platform’s global roadmap as well as support go-to-market activities.

 

 

The Director, Global Product Owner, identifies capabilities, features, value proposition and potential risks for the ScotiaConnect API’s vision, working with key stakeholders to produce high-quality business solutions, supporting business leaders in the overall development and implementation of strategies that shape meaningful change for our customer and the business.

This position will oversee the overall health of the Global ScotiaConnect API’s platform, including setting and managing expectations, ensuring that the team has the appropriate capacity and capability to deliver on customer promises. The Director role is the escalation point for unresolved impediments, and responsible for minimizing delivery risk across the value stream, and manages the overall system of work with an eye towards high feedback, and constant improvements.

 

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Define highly differentiated and commercially valuable propositions for ScotiaConnect API’s by identifying new opportunities with internal product and business groups, and external partners.
  • Provide oversight and governance to the bank’s International Banking (IB) groups to develop and deliver a unified transaction banking API experience for clients or partners across the banks footprint.
  • Support the Partnerships team and the Treasury and Payment Solutions team to identify and prioritize new opportunities to grow ScotiaConnect API’s
  • Develop ScotiaConnect API’s platform roadmap, balancing the needs of customers, external partners, IB groups and clients.
  • Act as the voice of the business in ScotiaConnect API’s API design, priorities and objectives outlining the platforms vision and strategy, impact reporting and backlog.
  • Manage and direct Agile team members (Product Owner, Engineers etc.) to deliver user journeys and enable ScotiaConnect API’s roll-out.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Responsible for the overarching strategic vision, commercialization, and execution of services on the ScotiaConnect API’s platform. Subject matter expert with a relentless pursuit to identify, define and build innovative solutions and experiences for API platform users
  • Understands and articulates the ScotiaConnect API’s vision, including its requirements, value proposition, and key risks associated with opportunities/ ideas.
  • Defines and manages the overall product backlog and provides support for the delivery of backlog items and the ongoing testing and refinement to optimize and enhance their value.
  • Provides direction to a cross-functional team of members spanning operations, technology, and business. Work in a cross-functional agile environment with Design, Engineering, Analytics Teams as well as Business Stakeholders to create value and deliver a world-class customer experience.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Produce and monitor regular (daily/weekly/monthly) reports of key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive Product P&L, revenue (NIR and NII), growth of the Channel business.
  • Evaluate, monitor, and mitigate product risks and ensure compliance to any relevant regulations. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Develop and execute strategic business plans and requirements for the global platform and lead the preparation of funding requests at multiple levels of the organization to ensure program continuity.
  • Manage day-to-day channel operations and ensure timely management and resolution of associated issues.
  • Understanding current market research and tracking of global trends, competitor offerings and understanding market requirements.
  • Maintaining lines of communication with delivery network, partners and customers about needs, competitive opportunities and trends.
  • Maintaining active participation in strategic conversations about customer experience.
  • Overseeing the prioritization of requirements to ensure the target customer experience is achieved.
  • Actively participate in the development process to ensure requirements achieve desired objectives and outcomes.
  • Fostering and developing a strong, positive team environment, driving individual contributor and team empowerment, innovation and a high degree of engagement.

 

 

 

What You'll Bring:

 

  • Degree / post graduate degree, preferably in business/management, computer science or engineering
  • 12+ years’ experience in Cash Management and Payments industry and in-depth understanding of the global payments marketplace and regulatory environment
  • Experience working on large technology projects using industry-standard delivery methodologies (e.g., Agile/Scrum/Kanban)
  • In-depth understanding of delivery networks of financial products and services within the context of the Bank’s sales and service strategies across the various delivery channels
  • Strong business sense with knowledge of financial concepts and the ability to apply them to business situations
  • Strong negotiating skills with experience in deal structuring as responsibilities include negotiating on behalf of the Bank with other sophisticated entities
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills are required. Spanish speaking and writing preferred
  • Strong decision making, forward thinking and creative problem-solving skills to anticipate and respond quickly to technological/market influences
  • Be results oriented and innovative in identifying and pursuing opportunities to leverage capabilities to increase revenues, decrease costs and mitigate risks
  • Spanish / French Language competency is an advantage.
  • Strong strategic and tactical planning skills
  •  Strong knowledge of the Bank's operational processes and requirements
  • Strong knowledge of financial and budget processes
  • Strong knowledge of sales and sales management skill.

Work Arrangement:

 

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
