Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Innovation, Privacy and Policy Division, the Executive Director (ED), Privacy, Policy and Governance, is accountable for the Government of Alberta's privacy, information management and technology policy, including but not limited to legislation, regulation and the Information Management and Technology Policy Program. In addition, the position provides strategic leadership for privacy services to all departments (with the exception of health focused departments), policy coordination for Technology and Innovation and divisional business support and administrative services.
Technology and Information has responsibility for key privacy and technology legislation, including the Protection of Privacy Act, Personal Information Protection Act, Electronic Transactions Act and the Records Management Regulation. The position leads the development of legislative and policy products for these various laws and for the Minister's responsibilities under them, such as the creation and publication of annual reports.
This position interacts extensively with other ministries, stakeholders and partners to promote and improve the delivery of privacy, information management and technology policy and services, provides expert strategic advice and consultation, represents and explains policies and mitigates issues. The Executive Director is the key liaison with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) and represents the government's and ministry's interests. The position is also responsible to receive and incorporate legal advice on matters related to department policies and interpretations.
The ED translates ministry priorities into meaningful direction and plans for the branch. Pathways and networks are built and fostered across the department, Government of Alberta (GoA) and with external stakeholders to enable the work of the branch. As a member of the Division Leadership Team, the ED provides integrated plans and reports to shape division directions and achievements. Strategic advice and recommendations are provided to the ADM, Executive Team. Deputy Minister and government officials on matters related to branch business.
Qualifications
As a highly credible leader, you bring significant senior level management experience with proven success in strategic planning, policy development and coordination. You have expert knowledge of public and private sector privacy legislation, issues, and trends. Additionally, you have demonstrated experience in leading larger, complex cross-ministry initiatives, with excellent advocacy, relationship building, and collaboration skills. As an influential leader, you have an extensive track record of developing relationships, leading teams and engaging with complex internal and external stakeholder. Experience providing unbiased advice and recommendations to executive leadership will round out your background. A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Salary
$5,234.94 - $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 annually)
