Based in Vancouver, the Investment Accountant is responsible for timely, complete, and accurate accounting and financial reporting of Real Estate Debt investments. The Investment Accountant works directly with the Real Estate Debt Operations, Legal, the Valuations Department, Corporate Accounting, and Taxation teams to complete daily investment transactions and periodic financial reporting tasks for various stakeholders.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Records and ensures completeness and accuracy of daily investment transactions and activities.
  • Performs monthly closing procedures, such as bank reconciliations, preparation of month-end accruals, and amortizations, etc.
  • Prepare monthly subledger and general ledger reconciliations and working papers
  • Reconcile shares, holdings and transactions for pooled funds and segregated holdings at each month end
  • Perform valuation and FX roll-up entries for pooled funds and stopper entities
  • Participates in quarterly and annual financial statements, including financial statement disclosures (and working paper files), in accordance with policies and established standards.
  • Responds to and supports inquiries from cross-functional departments, clients, and auditors.
  • Adherence to financial controls and procedures to ensure all aspects of accounting, valuation, and reporting meet established policies.
  • Assists with other assigned tasks and special projects as needed.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
  • Currently pursuing or with an intention to pursue CPA designation
  • 1-2 years of accounting experience, financial reporting experience is an asset
  • Strong critical thinking, quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excellent organization, with keen attention to detail and eagerness to learn
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and IFRS Reporting Standards
  • Knowledge/experience in investment accounting and/or mortgage investments is an asset
  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel, Word, and other Microsoft suite of products
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate key themes and messages to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with Yardi ERP is an asset
  • Knowledge of PowerBI is an asset

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $65,000 - $75,000

The actual salary offered will take into consideration a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the individual’s skill, experience, education and training, the market compensation of the role, and the consideration to internal equity.
