Our federal government client is seeking the support of a Senior Research Consultant to offer specialized scientific guidance in support of a national research initiative focused on environmental and socio-economic studies. This initiative allocates funding to projects that promote informed and responsible exploration and development of natural resources in remote and offshore regions of Canada. The consultant will provide support to a governing body and administrative team by contributing to the development of research priorities and proposal solicitations. Apply today!

Tasks

• Provide Scientific and Strategic Guidance
  • Offer expert scientific input on emerging research topics and questions relevant to the organization’s mandate. This includes attending board meetings and advising on issues as they arise.
• Develop and Refine Research Agendas
  • Support the formulation of research priorities and assist in the creation of new calls for proposals by coordinating with advisory groups, consulting other experts, and engaging regional stakeholders.
• Evaluate and Review Research Proposals and Outcomes
  • Participate in the assessment of research proposals and final reports. Coordinate with additional technical reviewers when needed, and contribute to quality control of scientific outputs.
• Facilitate Communication and Outreach
  • Help review scientific publications and outreach materials. Assist in communicating research findings clearly to a range of audiences, including the public, industry, and regulatory bodies.
• Strengthen Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as a point of contact between the research program and external stakeholders (e.g., industry, regulators, contractors). Maintain an on-the-ground presence to ensure effective communication and alignment.

Experience & Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree and a graduate degree in a scientific field
• A minimum of five years of professional experience offering scientific guidance on environmental matters connected to offshore oil and gas activities within Canada.
• Experience leading at least five projects involving the delivery of scientific advice and the execution of research focused on environmental concerns linked to the offshore oil and gas sector.
