Purpose


The Fund Tax Specialist, reports to the Senior Manager, Fund Tax Reporting & Planning, and oversees tax distribution administration and reporting to ensure fund compliance with tax regulations. The role also supports operational areas such as product development, customer relations, fund accounting, client administration, and financial reporting as needed.
 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Support tax distributions for monthly, quarterly, and annually paying funds, including providing requested documents by service provider, perform reconciliations and working papers as needed
  • Reconcile various investor tax slips and filings with CRA (e.g. T5s, T3s, T4RSPs, NR4s, etc.) and support Tax Manager with year-end tax slip project
  • Oversee log of corporate actions affecting the funds
  • Prepare HST Annual SLFI returns for the funds, and related election forms
  • Support tax administration for the funds, including but not limited to:
  • Prepare applications and tax forms to CRA and other applicable tax authorities for new fund launches, fund mergers and terminations;
  • Calculate blended HST rate and related monthly/annual HST/QST reporting applicable to the funds;
  • Document and automate processes, such as compiling sets of information for analysis and comparison using AI and macros in Excel;
  • Complete foreign withholding tax forms and related documents;
  • Prepare non-resident tax instructions and reconciliation to CRA statements;
  • Resolve specific daily tax issues and perform daily tasks as required;
  • Ad hoc projects as assigned by the Manager and/or Senior Manager.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • University Degree – BA, Commerce/ Accounting;
  • IFIC and/or CSC certified is a definite asset;
  • Experience in a mutual fund company is a strong asset;
  • Proficient in Macros and MS Office (i.e. excel spreadsheets & word);
  • Familiarity with accounting systems (i.e. MCH and MPower) an asset;
  • Bilingual (English & French) an asset;
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills required;
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, accurate and detail oriented; and
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

 

Work Arrangement: Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Travel may be required on an exception basis.
