Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Campus Planning and Capital Development, the Project Control Manager plays a critical role in the successful execution of projects by providing comprehensive planning, monitoring and control support. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining project schedules, budgets and resource allocations while proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks and issues. The Project Controls Manager will work closely with project managers, team members and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary 3 year diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, Finance, Accounting or equivalent; Post-secondary 4 year degree in relevant field would be preferred

  • Minimum 5-7 years of construction industry experience

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

  • Proven experience and ability in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control

  • Good knowledge of cost estimates and cost analysis

  • Knowledge of the “Earned Value Management” principles

  • Ability to produce, read and modify schedules and scheduling tools and reports

  • Natural leader and team builder who can build strong relationships quickly

  • Ability to effectively build and lead project controls staff

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly identify and articulate issues

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees

  • Problem solver with sound judgment who accepts ownership and accountability

  • Detail oriented and result focused

  • Hands-on experience working with MS project tools: SharePoint, Excel, Word, Power Point, MS Project and Visio

  • Knowledge of Workday and required project controls software such as Primavera is an asset

  • Good knowledge of Contract Management, Provincial lien act and Canadian Construction Documents (CCDC) and OAA contract documents 

  • Experience with AutoCAD, BIM and other Design and Building Applications

  • Estimating experience would be a strong asset

  • Knowledge of estimating and quantity surveying and familiarity with CostX, Bluebeam or other estimating applications will be an asset

  • Certifications/Designations such as PMP, CEC (Construction Estimating Certificate), PQS (Professional Quantity Surveyor), CIQS (Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) and LEED will be an asset

  • Knowledge of Public Procurement Policies or willingness to learn quickly

  • Comfortable overseeing complete project life cycle, including change orders

  • Experience with educational institutions will be an asset
