Our client in the Broader Public Sector is looking to hire a full-time Senior Corporate Accounting Technician on an initial 12-month contract, with the possibility of a 3-month extension.
The Senior Technician, reporting to both the Corporate Accounting Supervisor and Tax Manager, manages expense processing, reconciliations, and journal entries while supporting tax filings and resolving related issues. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and attention to detail, ensuring efficient operations in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process accounts payable transactions, including issuing cheques and electronic payments, verifying receipt of services, coding transactions, and entering data into the accounting system.
- Reconcile accounts, ledgers, and daily balances in a timely manner.
- Prepare month-end adjusting entries.
- Develop, implement, and maintain corporate accounting policies and procedures; contribute to the development of new directives; and document processes and procedures.
- Generate reports and retrieve invoices to support PST filings.
- Prepare and confirm tax payments as needed.
- Run quarterly reports to support installment calculations.
- Identify and manage quarterly non-resident withholding requirements.
- Communicate with tax authorities to resolve outstanding issues.
- Assist with gathering documents for tax filings, manage mail and signature requests, maintain file organization, and schedule meetings.
- Provide backup support to other Senior Technicians in Corporate Accounting as required.
- Perform additional tasks as requested by the Corporate Accounting and Tax teams.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of experience in an accounts payable role.
- Strong accounting skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- A collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and attention to detail skills.
- Proactive, results-oriented, and skilled in time management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and high productivity in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze issues, exercise sound judgment, and maintain a customer-focused mindset.
- A drive to excel in a continuous improvement environment.
- Critical thinking skills to approach challenges with innovative solutions.
- Knowledge of financial reporting and relevant accounting standards
- Experience with complex decentralized organizations, ideally financial institutions
- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics NAV accounting software
- Experience with corporate income tax and indirect filings
