A large financial client is seeking an AWS Glue Developer with 8–12 years of experience to join their team on a contract basis. This role focuses on building secure and scalable data pipelines for migrating data from an on-premise Netezza system to a modern AWS Redshift data lake. The candidate is expected to come to the downtown Toronto location 3x a week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop robust ETL pipelines using AWS Glue (scripted and visual) to transfer data from Netezza to Redshift.
  • Connect securely to Netezza using JDBC connectors and Glue crawlers.
  • Implement complex transformations, schema mapping, and data cleansing using PySpark or Scala.
  • Configure AWS Glue Crawlers and Catalog tables to support Redshift Spectrum and downstream consumption.
  • Optimize data ingestion performance using Redshift best practices (distribution styles, sort keys, COPY).
  • Automate workflows via AWS Glue Workflows, Triggers, and Step Functions.
  • Ensure secure integration with AWS S3, IAM, KMS, and CloudWatch.
  • Set up logging, monitoring, and alerting for production-grade pipeline stability.
  • Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and project managers to meet business objectives and deadlines.

Required Skills:

  • Strong expertise with AWS Glue
  • Experience with Amazon Redshift and Athena
  • Proficiency in PySpark or Scala
  • Solid understanding of data lake architecture and Redshift Spectrum
  • Hands-on experience in Redshift performance tuning
  • Knowledge of secure data communication (e.g., VPN, Direct Connect, AWS DMS)
