A leading enterprise client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Azure SQL Database Engineer to design, build, and manage Azure-based database solutions in support of critical application ecosystems. This role blends architecture, automation, governance, and operational excellence in a high-impact environment. You will collaborate with senior architects and stakeholders to shape strategic data solutions while mentoring junior staff and driving database best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Architect, build, and deploy scalable Azure SQL solutions (PaaS/IaaS) tailored to application and business requirements.
Recommend optimal Azure database services (SQL DB, Managed Instance, Hyperscale, etc.).
Lead Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) implementation using Terraform, Azure DevOps pipelines, or similar tools.
Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and performance optimization.
Monitor and troubleshoot using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and custom dashboards.
Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions for database issues.
Required Skills & Experience
10+ years as a SQL Server DBA, including 4+ years with Azure SQL platforms.
Strong hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
Advanced T-SQL, query tuning, indexing, and execution plan analysis.
Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code for database provisioning (e.g., Terraform, Bicep).
Deep understanding of Azure services—networking, identity (AAD), monitoring, and cost control.
Expertise in HA/DR: AlwaysOn AGs, geo-replication, failover groups.
Familiarity with CI/CD and automation tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, PowerShell).
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft certifications (DP-300, AZ-104, AZ-305).
Experience with hybrid database environments (on-prem and cloud).
Exposure to PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, or other cloud-native data platforms.
Participation in enterprise architecture review boards and proposal development.
