Our client, a faith-based organization, is seeking a Controller to join their team on a permanent, part-time basis.
In this key leadership role, you’ll oversee and enhance financial operations, from establishing policies and internal controls to managing reporting systems that support long-term stability. You'll also contribute to human resources, policy development, and overall organizational governance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full accounting cycle, including journal entries for investments, amortization, accruals, prepaids, and monthly income such as donations and electronic transfers.
- Prepare monthly financial reports with variance analysis and ensure timely bank reconciliations and weekly cash flow planning.
- Manage quarterly filings (HST, WSIB) and compile financial packages for board meetings.
- Administer payroll and year-end reporting (T4s, source deductions), and support budget planning with leadership.
- Monitor insurance coverage and liaise with brokers; review and reconcile investment statements.
- Supervise accounting staff, provide training, and support performance development.
- Coordinate external audits and assist auditors with required documentation.
- Deliver financial updates to stakeholders and review draft financial statements for board approval.
- Handle required filings, including T3010 charity returns, trust filings, and personal tax returns for affiliated individuals.
People & Operations Oversight
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance management across departments.
- Provide guidance on HR matters and ensure compliance with evolving employment regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date employee and volunteer records, and manage policy development and interpretation.
- Oversee occupational health and safety training and reporting, including WSIB claims.
- Manage payroll processing, reconciliations, and continuity planning.
- Administer insurance coverage and employee benefits in coordination with relevant providers.
- Monitor changes in legislation impacting governance, HR, and charitable compliance; update internal policies accordingly.
- Assist with donation receipting, reconciliation, and coordination of in-kind contributions.
- Lead or support special projects and regulatory reporting as needed.
