Position Overview
Calian is currently looking for an Intermediate life cycle management specialist for a future project to support Department of National Defense’s Director Aerospace Equipment Program Management (Fighters and Trainers). Providing lifecycle management and Air worthiness support of Search And Rescue Equipment (SAR), including but not limited to:
- SAR personnel and Cargo parachutes
- SAR Survival kits; and
- SAR Rescue Equipment
We would require the candidate to have worked with SAR equipment in the past, either through the CAF or prior DND work.
Responsibilities
a) Manage obsolescence on current equipment by performing life cycle cost evaluation and options analysis as directed by the TA to optimize the efficiency of the equipment;
b) Assist in the development and review of equipment requirements and specifications for SOWs;
c) Assist with the development and implementation of test, verification and validation procedures in association with Engineering Test Establishment organizations;
d) At the request of the TA, liaise and act as a point of contact for the users and field managers of the equipment, and other LCMS and materiel managers that manage shared or integrated equipment;
e) Enter, verify and review materiel data in the Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) and the Logistics Management Planning Tool (LMPT);
f) Develop and maintain airworthiness, technical and other support documentation in the Records Data Information Management System (RDIMS).
g) Assist the TA to ensure that all LCMS activities are carried out in compliance with CTAT regulations and procedures;
h) Provide recommendations, maintain demilitarization codes and develop associated procedures as required;
i) Review equipment entitlements, scales of issue and initiate requirements for change;
j) Monitor and coordinate deliveries of materiel to equipment users in the field, (i.e., bases, wings, units, squadrons and schools);
k) Ensure compliance with technical airworthiness guidelines and provide technical advice to assist the TA in conducting risk assessments in support of technical investigations;
l) Participate in and respond to airworthiness and quality system audits as required by the TA;
m) Provide technical advice in the development and implementation of quality systems and technical airworthiness processes when requested by the TA;
n) Verify, review and confirm integrated logistics support arrangements to support the technical requirements of the equipment being managed;
o) Perform life cycle costing and options analysis as directed by the TA to optimize the efficiency of the equipment;
p) Provide recommendations to reduce or mitigate hazardous material and negative environmental impacts;
q) Attend meetings at test establishments, DND and commercial facilities;
r) Assist the TA in the development of corrective action plans resulting from airworthiness audits and/or flight safety investigations;
s) Become familiar with the objectives of the Sustainment Business Case Analysis (SBCA), assisting the TA as required with inputs on SCBA processes; and
t) LCMS must participate as advisory members to the following stakeholders:
(i) TAs;
(ii) Procurement and Supply Managers;
(iii) Requirements Officers;
(iv) Major Crown Project Offices;
(v) Interrelated Weapons System or Equipment Project Managers;
(vi) Collateral LCMSs and Departments;
(vii) Life Cycle Quality Managers and National Defence Quality Assurance Representatives;
(viii) End users and managers of the materiel; and National and international working groups
Qualifications
Must have a High School diploma or higher level of education
- A valid provincial driver’s license (Class G or equivalent as a minimum)
- 2-5 years of experience performing life cycle management services in an Aviation Life Support Equipment/ Search and Rescue (SAR) environment.
- 3 years of experience working in the Search and Rescue environment or Equivalent, including direct support of SAR technicians through the packing of SAR Personnel and cargo chutes

Must currently hold of be eligible for Secret (Level II) Security Clearance with the Government of Canada
