Role Responsibilities

The Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services is seeking an experienced, strategic, and passionate clinical leader to join our team as Manager, Immunization Policy. This is a pivotal role supporting public health initiatives that align with compliance to the Immunization Regulation which includes immunization policy development, program implementation, adverse events following immunization surveillance, and stakeholder engagement. Working within the Communicable Disease Control Branch you will lead Alberta’s immunization policy framework, support the Alberta Advisory Committee on Immunization (AACI), and provide expert oversight in areas of vaccine safety, program strategy, and intergovernmental collaboration.

The job responsibilities include:
Immunization Policy & Program Development

• Lead strategic policy development for immunization initiatives, including Alberta's immunization framework for introducing new vaccine programs.
• Conduct research, literature reviews, and data analysis to inform decision-making.
• Promote immunization through internal and external working groups, and support stakeholders in interpreting policy.

Alberta Advisory Committee on Immunization (AACI)

• Secretarially support the AACI by developing evidence-based resources and policy options.
• Coordinate meetings, agendas, work plans, and deliver impactful presentations to committee members.

Adverse Event following Immunization (AEFI) Surveillance

• Oversee policy development related to adverse event reporting compliance and vaccine safety.
• Oversee and assist with analysis using surveillance data.
• Collaborate with provincial and federal partners on safety reporting and policy compliance.

Immunization Strategy Development

• Lead the creation and implementation of an Alberta Immunization Strategy (AIS).
• Collaborate across sectors to identify trends, best practices, and develop actionable targets aligned with PPHS’s business and strategic goals.

Role Responsibilities Cont.

Team Leadership

• Supervise a team of specialized immunization policy professionals.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, direction, and ensure alignment with departmental priorities and public health goals.
• Chair meetings with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders

Data System Support

• Collaborate with and ensure policy and program alignment in immunization related public health information systems such as the provincial immunization and adverse event reporting system (Imm/ARI) and the Alberta Vaccine Inventory Management system (AVI).

Provincial Vaccine Depot (PVD) Oversight

• Serve as back-up to the Immunization Business Manager, overseeing vaccine distribution and inventory at the PVD.
  
  

Executive Support and Representation

• Act as the Director’s delegate when needed, managing supervisory duties and urgent policy decisions.
• Respond to Ministerial requests, including briefing notes, action requests, and media/public inquiries.
• Represent Alberta Health at federal/provincial/territorial (F/P/T) meetings related to immunization.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards
University graduation in a field related to nursing/ medicine, supplemented by four years related experience.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered based on: 
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

The following experience is required: 

• Bachelor of Nursing degree (Registered Nurse) in good standing with Collage of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Extensive public health experience in immunization programs.
• Experience in managing and directing people, complex projects or programs.
• Working with senior officials of provincial ministries and/or public health agencies.
• Considerable progressively responsible health related experience including demonstrated experience managing projects involving diverse client groups.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing evidence and data with the ability to write briefings for senior officials.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The following are considered assets: 

• Experience with working in government in a leadership position.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and critical thinking.
• Demonstration of creative and innovative approaches. 

The following experience will be given preference:

• At least 5 years of public health experience in immunization programming/operations/policy development.

Notes

This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week.

An additional written assignment will be used as part of the recruitment process.
