As a Senior Policy Analyst in the Strategic Initiatives Unit, you’ll lead impactful projects, shape critical regulations like the Class 1 driver training framework, and influence policies that promote road safety and economic growth. Your work will directly support senior leadership and contribute to decisions affecting millions of Albertans.

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Initiatives, you’ll lead multi-phase policy and engagement initiatives that support on-road safety and regulatory modernization. This role offers a dynamic environment where cross-ministry collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and forward-thinking analysis come together to shape long-term transportation outcomes. Your leadership will guide program implementation, legislative review, and strategic planning within the Traffic Safety Services Division.

Your key responsibilities include:

• Leading policy and regulatory development by designing and implementing transportation safety policies, including those relating to the Class 1 Learning Pathway and S-Endorsement
• Driving project management through multi-phase initiatives involving legislative analysis, policy development, stakeholder consultation, and change implementation
• Conducting complex research and analysis to evaluate existing and proposed policies, assess risks, and provide evidence-based recommendations to executive leadership
• Engaging stakeholders and building partnerships across ministries, jurisdictions, Indigenous communities, and external organizations to gather input and align initiatives
• Preparing high-quality materials for Cabinet, senior officials, and external audiences, including briefings, reports, communications plans, and regulatory updates
• Implementing strategic programs in alignment with ministry goals, evaluating outcomes, and adapting based on emerging issues and stakeholder feedback
• Contributing to operational leadership by supporting strategic and business planning, managing external contractors, and acting for the Director when required

Qualifications

Required:

• A related university degree (e.g., Public Administration, Political Science, Social Sciences, etc.), and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience in policy analysis, development, and implementation. Equivalencies may be considered. 
• Cover letter detailing how your skills and experience align with the role's responsibilities, used to assess writing and communication skills. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.

Preferred:

• Graduate degree in a related field
• Demonstrated experience conducting consultations and developing regulatory or legislative proposals
• Familiarity with Alberta’s transportation legislation and regulatory frameworks
• Familiarity with contract development and management

Equivalencies are:

• A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Additional Position Details:

• This position is a temporary (up to November 2026), full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
• Location: Twin Atria Building, 4999 98 Ave, Edmonton, AB T6B 2X3
