Role: Storage Solution Architect (Mainframe) – Contract
Overview: Our client is seeking a highly experienced Storage Solution Architect to lead the design, support, and optimization of their complex, high-availability storage infrastructure. This role requires deep technical expertise in mainframe storage systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to support mission-critical environments.
Contract Details:
- Location: Canada, Ontario (Remote)
- Duration: 6 months (with potential extension)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (37.5 hours/week)
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, maintain, and optimize mainframe storage systems, including: DASD (Direct Access Storage Devices, Virtual Tape, Automated Tape Libraries (ATL)
- Provide Level 4 (L4) storage support across both mainframe and distributed environments.
- Collaborate with application teams to troubleshoot disk and tape allocation issues and ensure business continuity.
- Administer and configure z/OS storage subsystems, including installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Manage and maintain critical storage components such as: DFSMS, RMM, DFHSM, DFDSS, FDR/ABR, FDRINSTANT, ABARSTPCR, T-Rex, ZARA VTS, FICON/ESCON
- Lead Disaster Recovery testing efforts across multiple business units.
- Perform catalog management: adding, moving, recovering, and resizing catalogs.
- Monitor storage capacity, add new volumes, and execute housekeeping and reclamation activities.
- Conduct backup and restore operations (e.g., HSM, ADDRSU, FDRABR).
- Develop and maintain JCL scripts and REXX code for automation and storage operations.
- Provide on-call support and escalation as needed, ensuring SLA compliance and timely incident resolution.
- Participate in capacity planning, performance tuning, and architectural reviews.
Required Qualifications:
- 12+ years of IT experience, including 8+ years of senior-level mainframe storage support.
- Deep expertise in z/OS storage infrastructure and related IBM program products.
- Hands-on experience with storage tools and platforms such as: DFSMS, RMM, DFHSM, FDR/ABR, ZARA, BMC MainView
- IBM and EMC storage hardware systems
Strong knowledge of:
- Volume management, tape operations, disaster recovery processes
- Data replication and migration tools
