Altis Recruitment is grateful to partner with an organization within the Broader Public Sector to support the recruitment of a Senior Privacy Advisor to join their collaborative and forward-thinking privacy team. This is an exciting 7-month full-time contract opportunity, that can be performed remotely anywhere in Canada.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic privacy professional with at least 1 year of experience in the federal government and 3+ years in a privacy role supporting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) in either the public or private sector. The successful candidate will be confident, adaptable, and thrive in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities. The successful candidate will build strong relationships and be proactive in reaching out to stakeholders across the organization to understand their programs and provide input. This individual will be diligent and methodical, with an eye for detail, especially when it comes to documentation and compliance.

About the Role
Reporting to the Manager of Privacy, you’ll act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting both the operational and strategic components of a maturing privacy program. This role is deeply hands-on with Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and offers the opportunity to influence strategic privacy decisions, collaborate cross-functionally, and support privacy program development in a business-driven context.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and conduct PIAs on programs, systems, and complex initiatives; typically managing 5–6 PIAs at a time.
  • Support the decommissioning of legacy processes and systems with a focus on identifying gaps and aligning with current policies and procedures.
  • Act as the go-to privacy advisor for departments across the organization
  • Engage in gap analyses, identifying and documenting gaps in compliance, and providing clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Assist departments by reviewing strategic program documentation and inserting privacy input (e.g., updating columns in internal project docs).
  • Document all activities and privacy decisions clearly within internal tools, including a newly integrated Resolver GRC module.
  • Provide strategic input to large programs not yet implemented, those involving frameworks and policy building.
  • Stay current with federal privacy laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to and maintain privacy documentation that will be shared publicly and submitted to the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS).
  • Support the broader privacy team in preparing materials, leading meetings, and helping other departments interpret and apply privacy principles effectively.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal privacy policy and procedure documentation.
  • Participate in regular team meetings (twice weekly) to stay aligned on privacy initiatives across the organization.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of relevant privacy experience, including hands-on experience conducting or supporting PIAs.
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience applying the Federal Privacy Act, along with 3+ years of experience in a privacy-related role within the federal government, provincial or municipal government, or the private sector.
  • Must have conducted PIAs independently or supported a senior advisor in the process.
  • Experience doing gap analyses, documentation, and privacy recommendations.
  • Strong working knowledge of public sector privacy compliance and internal advisory.
  • Familiarity with GRC tools like Resolver is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in public policy, law, or a related field is preferred.
