RVT, Internal Medicine

Location: Calgary, AB

Western Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Centre is welcoming a full-time RVT to join our Internal Medicine team. This position provides an opportunity to work with top board-certified specialists and the ability to learn about cutting-edge veterinary medicine with particular emphasis on endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures. Candidates should have advanced technical skills, exceptional client service skills, excellent communication skills, and a special interest in internal medicine. Responsibilities

  • Manage appointments: Starting medical records, history taking, physical examination, medical record keeping, invoicing, prescriptions, patient discharges, etc.

  • Procedures: Preparation of patients, setting up equipment, performing and monitoring anesthesia, assisting with procedures, i.e. handling instruments and performing biopsies during endoscopy, assisting with surgical or minimally invasive procedures, bone marrow aspirates, joint taps, etc.

  • On Call: Service specific for after-hours procedures

  • I-131 patient care

  • Inpatient care: Facilitating treatments, diagnostic work-up and monitoring of critically ill hospitalized patients

  • Plan, organize, and manage the daily flow of services on the internal medicine service

  • Communicating with clients and referring hospitals regularly

  • Drive the VCA Canada experience and ensure our patients receive the highest quality care

Qualifications

  • Registered Veterinary Technician

  • Prior veterinary experience is required

  • Work a minimum of 4 days per week with flexibility in hours (average days are 7:30 am - 6 pm)

  • Ability to think critically and multitask while working in a fast-paced, stimulating environment with challenging cases

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in performing calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)

  • Ability to work well with others in a hospital that requires a multi-disciplinary team approach among the specialty services
