Our client in the non-profit space is hiring a Building Facilities Manager for an 11-week contract, fully onsite in Ajax, with strong potential for extension. The Building Facilities Manager will be responsible for ensuring all buildings, equipment, and grounds are safe, functional, and well-maintained. This includes overseeing daily maintenance operations, managing site staff, handling urgent repair issues, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, calm under pressure, customer-service oriented, and confident in taking ownership of maintenance processes.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee maintenance of buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities across 6 residential sites.
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies to ensure high occupancy rates, timely work completion, and uninterrupted rent flow.
- Coordinate monthly fire safety checks, elevator inspections, and other critical building system testing.
- Prioritize and manage urgent repair requests, emergencies, and scheduled maintenance.
- Direct and support on-site staff responding to resident maintenance requests.
- Prepare specifications for unit turnovers and major renovation projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, local building codes, and internal procedures.
- Manage maintenance budgets, monitor expenses, and track work orders, snow removal logs, and preventive maintenance records.
- Communicate with residents about maintenance work progress and respond promptly to their concerns.
- Handle paperwork accurately, including work orders, purchase requests, and inspection logs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum 5-3 years of experience in building maintenance management, ideally within residential or real estate environments.
- Strong understanding of building maintenance strategies and procedures.
- Budgeting, expense tracking, and vendor coordination experience.
- Working knowledge of Ontario safety codes and building regulations.
- Proficient in basic MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word); systems are simple and user-friendly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a team-oriented mindset.
- Takes initiative, shows urgency, and has a calm, professional demeanor under pressure
- Calm demeanor with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Comfortable working independently, including on-site or in low-visibility areas
- Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance, and clean driver’s abstract.
