Treasury Board and Finance – Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) provides services to client ministries and agencies throughout the government to help them identify, measure, control and finance risk. The program is responsible for all Participants of the Alberta Risk Management Fund (the Fund) in accordance with the Financial Administration Act and regulation. RMI administers a program designed to minimize the cost of accidental loss or damage arising from property, general, and other lines of, liability, automobile, and other risks. The Claims Management Branch is responsible for the investigation and resolution of all claims covered by the Fund under the Risk Management and Insurance program (the RMI Program). Claims are financed through the Fund and purchased commercial insurance, as required.

Role Responsibilities

Do you like working on a small collaborative team and handling complex claims? Then this is the position for you.

 

You will report to the Director, Claims Management and will be accountable for the management, investigation, examination, negotiation and resolution of commercial general, and other lines of, liability, including automobile bodily injury claims. You will manage files assigned to independent adjusters for specific tasks and work with the various Participant ministries considering their interests and interests of other parties within the provisions of the Financial Administration Act and the Alberta Risk Management Fund Regulation.  You will work closely with and provide instructions to counsel at Alberta Justice Civil Litigation and outside legal counsel in the defence and settlement or resolution of claims.

 

Liability claims involving the Province are unique, confidential and sensitive and may have a high degree of complexity. You will participate in pre-trial conferences, mediations and judicial dispute resolutions.  As a member of our team, you will contribute to the planning, implementation and achievement of organizational goals, including advising and liaising with Risk Analysts in loss reduction and prevention.

 

You will bring your extensive experience with complex commercial general, and other lines of, liability, bodily injury claims and fatalities. You will provide quality service by enhancing claims results by utilizing effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills in dealing with staff, Fund Participants, legal counsel and service providers.

Qualifications

Relevant post-secondary degree, or diploma and CIP or FCIP designation, plus a minimum of four (4) years of experience in adjusting and managing complex liability claims, with extensive experience in, and focus on, examining commercial insurance litigated matters. Due to the sensitive and complex nature of the liability claims associated with this role, preference will be given to candidates with ten (10) or more years of directly related experience.

 

Proficiency in paperless, electronic claims management systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Outlook and Excel.

 

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency.

This position is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill future roles at the same or lower classifications.
