Instructional Designer
The Instructional Designer will be responsible for creating training content and materials that support organizational understanding and effective utilization of the Corporate Scheduling and Time Reporting solution. As part of the core project team, this role reports to the Project Manager and works closely with Business Units, vendors, subject matter experts (SMEs), and internal stakeholders to design and deliver impactful training experiences.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the Training Project Plan in alignment with project timelines and objectives.
- Design and develop training curriculum, materials, and documentation based on system functionality and business processes.
- Conduct training needs analysis and requirements gathering for training environments, users, and data.
- Create a variety of training deliverables, including e-learning modules (via Articulate Storyline 360), simulations, instructor guides, quick reference guides, and exercise guides.
- Review business process documentation to extract relevant training content and identify knowledge gaps.
- Work collaboratively with SMEs to develop realistic demo and exercise scenarios, including “day in the life” use cases.
- Ensure instructional integrity and adherence to training development standards.
- Prepare and support trainer readiness by providing all necessary resources for training delivery.
- Participate in project meetings, demos, and knowledge transfer sessions; take detailed notes and integrate learnings into training content.
- Communicate training-related risks, issues, and development status to the Business Change Manager.
- Update and maintain existing training materials to reflect system and process changes.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience as an Instructional Designer on complex, large-scale ERP implementation projects (either SAP or Workforce).
- Strong analytical thinking and business process orientation with the ability to translate complex systems into clear and relatable learning experiences.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams and engage stakeholders effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to step into the learner’s perspective and design training around practical, real-world scenarios.
- Experience with Articulate 360 (specifically Storyline 360) is required.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills; capable of managing multiple deliverables and deadlines.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable in a dynamic project environment.
- Experience working on projects within the public sector; familiarity with Canadian municipal environments specifically would be an asset.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, or a related field.
- Certifications in instructional design tools or methodologies (e.g., Articulate 360) are considered an asset.
