Payroll Specialist (Bilingual, REMOTE, PERMANENT)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Payroll Specialist (Bilingual) to join our client in a FULLY REMOTE, PERMANENT role. This role plays a key part in the accurate and timely processing of payroll, with a strong emphasis on financial reconciliation and HR/payroll system management. The successful candidate will act as a liaison between internal departments and external partners to ensure efficient payroll operations and compliance. * Candidates within the GTA will have to commute to downtown Toronto and be on-site 6 days a month (3 days per payroll processing week.)*
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage biweekly payroll processing with a focus on accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable legislation across Canada
- Provide guidance and support to employees and leadership on payroll-related matters; resolve escalated issues
- Conduct payroll audits, reconciliations, and reporting as required
- Collaborate with finance on payroll data, including general ledger mapping, accruals, and financial reporting
- Act as a payroll subject matter expert for cross-functional initiatives and system upgrades
- Maintain and leverage advanced knowledge of payroll-related systems, including timekeeping, HRIS, and financial platforms
- Prepare and distribute required reports for internal stakeholders
- Monitor changes in payroll legislation across applicable jurisdictions and implement updates in collaboration with internal teams
- Support payroll processes and financial tracking related to external vendors or contract workforce, including reconciliation of commissions, chargebacks, and taxable benefits
- Assist with investigations and data reviews involving payroll or compensation records
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3+ years of progressive experience in payroll or finance performing similar duties
- Completion of PCP, equivalent designation, or relevant financial degree is an asset
- Bilingual in French and English (required)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle high volumes of detailed work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced Excel skills (including v-lookups, pivot tables, SUMIFS, etc)
- Proven ability to work with large datasets and reconcile data from multiple systems
- Experience with HRIS systems is required; familiarity with Workday is considered an asset
