Bayshore Medical Personnel is actively searching for a highly motivated full-time Occupational Therapist with one (1) year of experience to join our team in Cold Lake, Alberta.  

This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist who is looking for a Monday - Friday career opportunity with day shifts only (no nights, no weekends), and who is ready for an exciting challenge working with an extremely unique and rewarding patient population!!!

Occupational therapists work with ill and/or injured military personnel to reduce/eliminate barriers impacting participation in valued roles and routines in order for the member to attain optimal potential. Valued roles and routines are what military personnel want to do and are expected to do and can be considered ‘occupation’. The occupational therapist’s role is twofold: (1) direct one to one or group time to assess and treat military personnel with varying levels of injury or illness and (2) consult/advise regionally with medical authorities on the area of occupational therapy practice and, if necessary, provide oversight of regional or local occupational therapy services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow all applicable Health Information and Records Management documentation standards and polices using forms provided
  • Complete all in-clearance activities within first two weeks of work  (may include acquiring access to information systems and reviewing department specific information
  • May be required to travel or perform some tasks via tele-health , audio or video conferencing ie) diagnosis, consultation, treatment or transfer of medical data
  • May be required to participate in or present at a working group, committee, board or attend court proceedings
  • Must operate within a collaborative practice and interdisciplinary care environment that supports continuity of care
  • May be required, on occasion, to provide clinical preceptorship to approved trainees and or Clinical Supervision of Unlicensed HCPs
  • Will participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities as members of the clinical community including, but not limited to, clinical audits, peer review, chart audits, morbidity and mortality rounds, utilization reviews
  • May be required, on occasion, to deliver instruction in an area of expertise to support teaching activities that the Department has initiated or agreed to support
  • May  be required, on occasion, to support research activities that the Department has initiated or agreed to support
  • Participate in ongoing internal and/or external continuing education activities
  • Adhere to Bayshore Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives in keeping with the company's Quality Management System
  • Participates in proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties. Is responsible to notify immediate Supervisor of any Health & Safety risks or concerns. Responsible for completing Accident Reports for all direct reports who injure themselves on the job, within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Maintains confidentiality of client and corporate information and discusses same only with appropriate Bayshore personnel
  • Complete other tasks as requested

All Occupational Therapists must, as a minimum possess:

  • a License in good standing order with the provincial or territorial professional college or association in the province of practice; and
  • a Certificate of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider or equivalent such as Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) Level C. Annual recertification is required.

Experience

The Occupational Therapist must possess a minimum of 1 year experience working as an Occupational Therapist with various orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, neurological, pre and postsurgical adult populations including complex injuries such as poly-trauma, traumatic brain injuries, and amputations; have experience with at least four of the following specific rehabilitation fields:

  • upper extremity injuries including amputation and training in splinting and bracing;
  • Assessment and treatment of chronic pain patients using occupation based methods;
  • Cognitive and/or mental health rehabilitation;
  • home access assessment and modifications that includes discharge planning, housekeeping/grounds keeping assessment, safe medication and health management;
  • Provision of assistive devices/adaptive equipment ;
  • injury prevention and ergonomics;
  • driving rehabilitation and vehicle modification prescription; or
  • Vocational rehabilitation, which includes experience in functional capacity assessments, work evaluation, or community re-engagement.

Experience with at least two of the following:

  • Multi-disciplinary rehabilitation experience at a physical rehabilitation facility;
  • Providing consultation regarding occupational therapy practices;
  • Providing oversight on occupational therapy services;

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (facilitated by Bayshore during onboarding):

  • Current N95 mask fit certificate CSA Standards Z94.4 (within 2 years)
  • Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) Certification (within 2 years)
