Job Description:

The School of Media and Digital Arts is seeking an experienced, passionate, and highly skilled Recording Engineer to join our Music Industry Arts faculty.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 15 years of professional experience in a wide range of studio environments and recording scenarios. This individual should possess expert-level knowledge of microphones, recording consoles, outboard gear, and their software-based counterparts, with a strong emphasis on Avid Pro Tools.

A successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of Dolby ATMOS workflows, networked audio systems, and advanced troubleshooting abilities across analog and digital domains. The faculty member will be expected to share real-world insight, mentor students, and contribute to a dynamic and evolving curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Audio Engineering to students in Music Industry Arts (MIA).

  • Provide demonstrations and practical hands-on experience in the modern large format multi track audio recording studio, using Pro Tools HD software and hardware technology along with an SSL Duality mixing consoles and various peripherals including outboard processors.

Curriculum Development and Enhancements

  • Create comprehensive lesson plans that balance theoretical knowledge and hands-on, practical experience.

  • Ensure course content stays up to date with industry trends and technological advancements.

  • Design assignments, projects, and assessments that promote creative thinking and technical skill development.

Supervise and mentor students on individual projects.

  • Provide feedback and guidance to students, encouraging creative and technical excellence in their work.

  • Assist students with troubleshooting software and hardware challenges related to audio recording.

Collaborate with other faculty and departments.

  • Work closely with colleagues in other programs and academic schools within Fanshawe to promote interdisciplinary learning.

  • Contribute to departmental activities, such as curriculum development, research initiatives, and industry partnerships.

Engage in professional development and industry networking.

  • Stay current on advancements in audio recording, and the broader music industry.

  • Establish connections with industry professionals to facilitate internships and job placement opportunities for students.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a two-year diploma in a field related to Music Industry Arts is required.

  • Fifteen years of professional experience working in the music industry.

  • Expert level knowledge of microphones, recording consoles, outboard equipment, and the software equivalent, experience and knowledge of Dolby ATMOS, an understanding of network audio, expert at troubleshooting, Expert level knowledge of Avid's Pro Tools software.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
