We are assisting our client in the search for a Controller to steer all aspects of financial reporting, planning, and control for a growing organization in Ottawa. Reporting to the CFO and leading a skilled team, you will be responsible for accurate financial insight, robust processes, and strategic decision support. This is a hybrid role and is permanent in Ottawa.
What you’ll do
- Lead and continuously improve month-end and year-end close, ensuring timely, accurate results
- Analyze full financial statements, investigate variances, and present actionable insights to senior leadership
- Deliver clear management reports, dashboards, and forecasts that guide operational and strategic decisions
- Maintain and refine budgeting, long-range planning, and complex pro-forma models
- Oversee external audits, lender reviews, and compliance filings, acting as primary contact for all external stakeholders
- Mentor and evolve the accounting team, shaping structure and capability to match business growth
- Direct AR, AP, cash-management, and foreign-currency processes to optimize working capital
- Drive systems and process enhancements that improve data integrity and efficiency
- Partner with the CFO on major strategic, operational, and tactical initiatives
Requirements
- 8+ years of senior-level experience leading finance teams
- CPA designation with a strong auditing foundation
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated expertise interpreting complex financial data and building large-scale Excel models
- Proven ability to manage multiple audits, lender reviews, and government reporting cycles
- Hands-on confidence with modern ERP and BI platforms
- Working knowledge of corporate tax, multi-currency consolidations, and asset-based lending is considered an asset
