Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an individual to support operations leadership with the implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program within the Energy and Resources Business Operating Unit (BOU) in North America. The position will be based out of one of our larger offices in the United States or Canada and will report to an HSSE Director.

This is a full-time position, and work hours will reflect the requirements of the geography.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with BOU leadership and team members to develop creative solutions based on a range of perspectives and uses team members’ expertise and work style to build consensus and identify opportunities for synergy.

  • Makes decisions by weighing guidelines, procedures, and other factors. Involves the right people in the decision-making process when applicable and seeks to gain an in depth understanding of information and issues.

  • Ensures that communication methods respect the culture of the organization and its partners and clients.

  • Delegates authority to match responsibility, holding others accountable for agreed commitments and takes personal and open responsibility for work of others within their line of authority.

  • Ability to develop and align actions with strategic goals in partnership with leaders.

  • Seeks to understand and address concerns and resistance in cross-team collaborations and recognizes individual and group achievements and talents.

  • Anticipates, aligns and adapts to multiple change initiatives to ensure the integration of plans, resources, and pace.

  • Assists and guides others to improve methods, systems, processes, and procedures with the end user in mind.

  • Seeks innovative ways to add value beyond clients' immediate requests.

  • Enhances client service delivery systems and processes.

  • Maintains effectiveness during challenging situations by remaining calm and focused.

Key Functions

  • Lead your team to support the business line employees and leadership.

  • Partner with the HSSE Managers from other BOUs to align tactics across HSSE activities.

  • Support and guide business line leadership with respect to HSSE.

  • Identify and share best practices within the organization.

  • Develop and deliver HSSE related training in alignment with the broader HSSE program.

  • Create and deliver communications related to HSSE matters for the business line.

  • Support leadership in the promotion of culture growth with respect to HSSE and development of business plans.

  • Provide analysis of data to business line leadership to guide decision making.

  • Provide technical support related to HSSE.

  • Support the business to meet client needs.

  • Manage incidents with the business line and HSSE leadership.

  • Provide support for Stantec’s subcontractor management program and support contractor prequalification assessments as per Stantec’s procedures when requested.

  • Guide project teams in the development of project specific safety plans and emergency response plans.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Professional safety certification CSP, CRSP or CIH.

  • Experience in HSSE related to energy and resource related projects is required.

  • Field HSSE training/certifications (mining and/or energy related).

  • Working knowledge of HSSE regulations in the United States and Canada.

  • Capable of preparing and presenting to small and large groups of workers and senior leadership (virtually or in person).

  • Can work in a team atmosphere and with a minimal amount of supervision.

  • A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

  • Requires up to 10% travel, typically one week or less in duration.

  • The ability to safely navigate stairs, ladders, and uneven terrain, enter active construction sites, enter structures under construction, and wear specialized personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

  • Bilingual in English and French will be considered an asset.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a health and safety profession.

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
