We are currently seeking a Senior Architectural Hardware Consultant/Specialist to join our team. This role is critical in providing expert internal support and leadership on large-scale projects for clients in the private, municipal, provincial, and federal sectors —primarily in Canada and the United States.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the following activities:
Participate in internal and client-facing project meetings to deliver expert guidance in architectural hardware.
Understand project-specific requirements impacting hardware selection, including:
§ Operational needs;
§ Applicable building codes and regulations;
§ Accessibility standards;
§ Fire resistance requirements;
§ Physical security needs in provided by the security specialist.
Recommend and specify appropriate mechanical and electrified hardware based on functionality, security level, and aesthetics requirements;
Prepare performance-based door hardware schedules using layout plans and according to the requirements set out above;
Collaborate closely with clients, architects, electrical engineers, and security specialists to ensure design intent is met;
Produce, with the assistance of a drafter, door elevation diagrams, when necessary;
Create detailed technical specifications, particularly Section 08 71 00 “Door Hardware,” in alignment with the National Master Specification (NMS) in closed coordination with the author of the other concerned divisions;
Review product data and shop drawings for compliance with specifications and hardware schedules;
Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation accessible to relevant stakeholders;
Ensure that the project file is up-to-date and accurate, and that information is accessible to the appropriate team members;
Contribute to costs estimates for hardware devices;
Support construction phase services by responding to RFIs and providing clarifications as needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications
DHI Certification (Door Hardware Institute) — considered an asset;
Additional specialized training in hardware — considered an asset;
In-depth knowledge of the architectural hardware market and product offerings;
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in architectural hardware specification and coordination;
Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards;
Fluent in English (oral and written) — required;
Fluent in French (oral and written) — considered an asset;
High standards of ethics, professionalism, and discretion;
Must be eligible for federal security clearance (mandatory);
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
