Role Responsibilities

Help shape the future of Alberta’s highway infrastructure—where your technical expertise ensures safe, sustainable transportation for generations to come. This is more than a technical role—it’s an opportunity to influence responsible development, support cross-sector collaboration, and contribute to the safety and efficiency of a province-wide network. If you're ready to make a meaningful impact across communities and transportation systems, we invite you to explore this exciting opportunity.

As an Infrastructure Technologist, you’ll lead technical reviews and planning initiatives that guide responsible roadside development and future highway improvements. Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating with municipalities, supporting project scoping and programming, and ensuring that development aligns with long-term transportation plans. This is a dynamic, multi-faceted role that connects technical insight with strategic planning.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and guiding development applications to ensure alignment with highway safety and long-term infrastructure goals
  • Supporting the planning and administration of infrastructure studies, including Terms of Reference development and consultant selection
  • Assisting in the preparation of project scoping documents by analyzing geometric and safety assessments and coordinating with internal teams
  • Identifying and proposing highway network improvements through transportation safety reviews, planning studies, and cost estimation
  • Collaborating with municipalities and internal stakeholders to address development proposals and their implications on highway plans
  • Preparing technical reports, briefing notes, and municipal funding agreements to support informed decision-making
  • Providing expert guidance to developers and municipal partners regarding Traffic Impact Assessments (TIAs) and highway-related planning requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Strong problem-solving and mediation skills to assess complex development issues and facilitate consensus among stakeholders
  • Exceptional communication skills to clearly explain technical issues to non-technical audiences, including municipal partners and the public
  • Creativity and ingenuity to evaluate alternative designs and contribute to strategic highway planning
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build strong working relationships with government partners, consultants, and community stakeholders
  • A forward-thinking approach that considers long-term impacts on infrastructure, safety, and community growth
