The Ministry of Children and Family Services funds programs and services to support vulnerable children, youth, families, and individuals to live safely and succeed in Alberta. This includes providing services and resources to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect, and effectively address harm that has placed them in need of intervention. Mentoring and support services are available to youth transitioning into healthy, productive adults. The ministry also invests in community-based groups that support prevention and early intervention services such as Family Resource Networks, youth emergency shelters as well as programs that raise awareness and help respond to family violence, sexual violence, and abuse.

Children and Family Services in the North Region of Alberta is currently recruiting to two practice specialist positions. The Practice Specialist seeks to inspire wholistic practices and influence systemic change at a regional level.
Responsibilities of this role are but not limited to the following:
We are looking for passionate individuals who have a drive and enthusiasm for advancing child intervention practice with children, families and communities. Your passion and the following skills will assist you in your success in this role:
This competition will be used to fill practice specialist roles in both Child Intervention and in our Indigenous Practice Supports unit. Please indicate in the pre-screen question your position of interest.
Practice Specialist (Indigenous focus), is connected to and assists in informing provincial directions and knowledge in regulations, standards, policies, and casework practice in an effort to support the child and family through expert knowledge in life-long connections with Elders, culture, history, family and/or community of origin, thereby promoting the development of a positive identity and wholistic outcomes for children and families. Practice Specialist (Child Intervention) is focused on practice implementation and skill enhancement at a regional level delivering and informing provincial direction and knowledge in Child Intervention Casework practice initiatives such as Signs of Safety, Intentional Search and Exploration and Child Intervention Practice Framework. These positions provide a broad range of services and supports within North Region of Alberta, shifting the worldview to include an appreciation of cultural knowledge and traditions, (the way we think, learn, interact, connect with, and understand the world), understanding the diversity of Indigenous and other cultures, heightened awareness of personal biases and stereotypes, thereby eliminating bias from programs and services and honouring the dignity of all Indigenous peoples.

There are currently 2 permanent positions:
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week (full-time).
There may be a requirement to work beyond the scheduled workday along with weekends and on-call responsibilities.
