We are seeking a talented and motivated Architectural Technologist to join our client's design team, responsible for delivering innovative retail environments. In this role, you will work alongside designers and project managers to develop comprehensive layouts, elevations, signage, and other design elements to support retail projects from conception through completion. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a collaborative mindset, and a keen attention to detail.
This is a 6-month contract (with potential for extension) and is hybrid with 4 days a week on site in North York and 1 day work from home.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and refine design concepts for retail environments, ensuring alignment with project objectives and specifications.
- Identify potential design or construction challenges, collaborate with the Senior Designer to develop solutions, and ensure designs meet established quality standards.
- Create detailed design documents, including store layouts and interior elevations, while adhering to design guidelines and project requirements.
- Work closely with external consultants and in-house teams to optimize designs, balancing creativity and cost-efficiency.
- Maintain consistent communication with project managers to track progress and address any issues that arise during the design process.
- Collaborate with operational teams to resolve any workflow-related challenges and ensure designs are functional and efficient.
- Proactively address any design or technical issues through clear communication and hands-on involvement in problem-solving.
Qualifications:
- Educational background in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related technical discipline focused on commercial or retail environments.
- At least 3 years of experience in retail design or a similar field, with a strong understanding of the design process.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- In-depth knowledge of building codes, design standards, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office Suite; experience with BIM 360 is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to overcoming design and technical challenges.
