Job Title: Database Administrator (Oracle & MS SQL)
Location: Remote within Canada
Job Type: 2 years contract, with possible extension. Full-time 40 hours a week
About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server to join our team. This role will focus on both project work and ongoing support activities from a systems administration perspective, working closely with infrastructure and application teams to ensure optimal database performance, security, and availability.
Work Model
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain Oracle and MS SQL databases on various platforms
Set up and manage VMware environments and ensure integration with database systems
Administer Microsoft Server and Azure infrastructure, including Windows Server and cloud-based resources
Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies for critical systems
Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and addressing bottlenecks
Maintain high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) configurations using tools such as Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and SQL Server Always On
Enforce security best practices for databases, including access control, encryption, and compliance checks
Execute and manage database migrations and software upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption
Create and maintain clear and comprehensive technical documentation and user guides for systems and processes
Deliverables
Backup and Recovery Plans – Well-documented and regularly updated strategies with scheduled backups and test recovery drills
Performance Tuning Reports – Detailed analysis reports highlighting issues, improvements, and ongoing performance metrics
Security Configuration Standards – Consistent application of best practices with audit-ready documentation
Database Health Reports – Regular monitoring reports with status updates, error logs, and recommendations
Required Qualifications
3–5 years of hands-on experience with Oracle and MS SQL database administration
Strong understanding of VMware, Azure, and Windows Server Administration
Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) or Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or equivalent certifications
2–4 years of formal technical education (e.g., technical diploma or university degree in Computer Science or related field)
Experience with backup and recovery tools and techniques
Solid understanding of security principles and database access control
