Senior Accounting Specialist – IFRS 17 
Location: Hybrid (two days in office) - Pickering 
Department: Accounting
Reports to: Accounting Manager – Insurance

We’re seeking a seasoned Senior Accountant – IFRS 17 with 7–10 years of accounting experience and strong hands-on knowledge of IFRS 17, especially the General Measurement Model (GMM). The ideal candidate has worked closely with actuarial teams, supported month-end and year-end closes, and is comfortable working with multiple IFRS 17 approaches.

Qualifications:

• Apply IFRS 17 standards to real contract cases — take a single contract, walk through the accounting treatment, and produce the P&L impact
• Provide a high-level conceptual overview of GMM and its components
• Identify which IFRS 17 approach (GMM, VFA, PAA) was used at your organization and explain the rationale
• Support month-end and year-end close processes with a focus on financial statement accuracy and compliance
• Work closely with actuarial teams to align assumptions and ensure consistent results across accounting and modeling
• Lead or contribute to the development of new financial processes or innovations within IFRS reporting
• Participate in audit preparation and documentation, ensuring full transparency and compliance
• Proactively propose solutions to complex accounting challenges, showing initiative and ownership

Skills:

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
• 7–10 years of experience in accounting (preferably corporate/insurance/financial services)
• Proven experience applying IFRS 17, particularly GMM (and familiarity with other approaches like PAA or VFA is a plus)
• Strong understanding of financial statements, corporate reporting, and collaboration with actuarial teams

Education & Certifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s preferred)
• CPA, ACCA, or equivalent designation - not a must
