Role

Reporting to the Deputy Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, the Assistant Deputy Minister, Regulatory, Transformation, Compliance and Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Policy (ADM) has a pivotal leadership role in advancing regulatory excellence across government. This role is responsible for setting the strategic direction and leading the division, ensuring its work drives system-wide improvements that reduce unnecessary regulatory burden, enhance compliance and integrity, and build public trust, through effective management and collaboration across government.

As the ADM, you will lead the development and execution of specific plans and strategies to move forward the Government of Alberta’s (GOA) objectives in gaming, cannabis, and liquor policy through oversight of the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) and related regulatory frameworks, including emerging sectors such as iGaming. You will be accountable for championing the government’s work on red tape reduction through strategic collaboration with other ministries and securing agency and cross ministry buy-in to reduce regulatory barriers and improve service delivery. This includes leading the design and implementation of modernization initiatives that strengthen compliance monitoring, enhance audit and investigation functions, and promote a more efficient, responsive, and accountable government for Albertans.

As a member of the Executive Team, you will contribute to the department’s strategic and business planning processes, and support colleagues to advance department and government priorities. You will be responsible for the strategic leadership and direction for audit and investigations, providing criminal and regulatory investigations and compliance and accountability to ensure the integrity and security of systems. Your leadership will be critical in ensuring consumers are protected, and businesses are compliant and are held accountable. You will also develop strategies across the division, the ministry and with partner organizations to strengthen and leverage opportunities. Your support to the Deputy Minister will ensure that the Department achieves its business goals and ministry mandates.  As a leader in the organization, you will contribute to organizational effectiveness, including the development of a highly engaged and motivated work environment, committed to serving Albertans with respect, integrity, accountability, and excellence.
