Let’s shape the future of banking together!

The Fraud Detection Analyst contributes to the success of the Tangerine Fraud Operations Team in Canada by detecting, investigating and mitigating fraudulent activity across Tangerine products. The role protects customers and minimizes financial losses while supporting the Bank’s fraud strategy and ensuring compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Investigate suspicious activity across Tangerine products and assess alerts generated by fraud detection tools.
  • Analyze account and transaction information to determine whether to block an account or contact the customer to validate activity.
  • Detect, prevent and mitigate fraudulent activity to minimize financial loss and customer impact.
  • Contact customers proactively, take ownership of their concerns and work toward resolution at the first point of contact.
  • Investigate new Mastercard acquisitions to assess application validity and potential fraud risk.
  • Review ad hoc fraud referrals, including suspected fraudulent application lists, and accurately mark confirmed fraud applications for monitoring and tracking.
  • Identify and escalate emerging fraud trends, large-scale attacks and potential points of compromise to management.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify other Tangerine products at risk and take timely action before fraudulent activity occurs.
  • Communicate with internal departments to resolve fraud-related inquiries and customer complaints.
  • Support the Fraud inbound team as required and achieve established service levels and performance indicators.
  • Apply the Bank’s risk appetite, risk culture and business controls when making day-to-day decisions.
  • Participate in team initiatives, support change and continuously develop your knowledge of fraud procedures, technologies and processes.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?  We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • You have customer service experience, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • You have strong analytical, critical-thinking and decision-making skills, with close attention to detail and the ability to recognize risk.
  • You have effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • You have strong active-listening, customer acknowledgement and problem-resolution skills.
  • You can work effectively in a fast-paced environment and navigate multiple applications and systems.
  • You have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and other basic PC applications.
  • You are available to work non-standard hours, including weekends and statutory or general holidays, based on business needs.
  • You can work in a headset-based, hybrid environment. Part-time and fixed shifts may be available to support departmental requirements.
  • You can support departmental operating hours from Monday to Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to midnight, or overnight shifts from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., where applicable. Operating hours may change based on business needs.
  • It would be an asset if you have post-secondary education in business or a related discipline, previous Retail Banking or Advice/Call Centre experience, or knowledge of systems supporting debit cards, credit cards and alternate delivery channel products.
  • Depending on the position, you can provide service in English or in both English and French to support customer and business needs.
