Description

Are you interested in solving complex engineering challenges while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, operational specialists, and members of the Canadian Armed Forces?

Join CAE’s embedded software development team and contribute to the operational effectiveness and evolving capabilities of the CF-18 fighter aircraft. You will participate in multiple stages of the system and software development lifecycle, from technical investigations and client discussions to requirements, design, implementation, testing, integration, qualification, and in-service support.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to projects that optimize the operational effectiveness of the CF-18.
  • Develop new functionality and improve existing mission-computer capabilities in areas such as armament, communications, tactics, information acquisition and processing, and human-machine interfaces.
  • Participate in technical investigations and discuss potential solutions with clients and operational specialists.
  • Define and analyze system and software requirements.
  • Contribute to design, modelling, programming, integration, testing, debugging, and software qualification activities.
  • Collaborate directly with operational specialists, including CF-18 pilots, and members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

This is a full-time, Monday-Friday hybrid working arrangement, with an expected presence of two to three days per week at the Mirabel office and occasional work from the Saint-Laurent office. Employees are expected to work 40 hours per week, and core working hours are from 9:30AM – 3:30PM.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, aeronautical, software, computer, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Up to two years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing about technical subjects in English or French.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with limited supervision.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, systems, and technical concepts independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability and willingness to work on defence systems involving military aircraft, armament, and related mission capabilities.
  • Eligibility for registration in Canada’s Controlled Goods Program.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Reliability Status and Level II Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in aeronautics, avionics, defence systems, or aircraft-system operations.
  • Experience with the development, integration, testing, or debugging of real-time embedded software.
  • Understanding of mathematical models or algorithms related to flight mechanics.
  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Ada, Assembly, MATLAB, C, C++, C#, Java, Python, or Unix.
  • Ability to communicate in both English and French.

Benefits

We’ve designed flexible policies to promote well-being and growth, based on role-specific eligibility and requirements:

  • Career-development opportunities, including mentoring and CAE Career Track programs.
  • A collaborative team environment where individual contributions are recognized and valued.
  • Flexible schedules and a hybrid work environment.
  • The opportunity to be part of a close-knit technical community within a global organization.
  • Work-life balance programs and resources.
  • A comprehensive benefits program that may include health insurance, an employee stock-purchase plan, a pension plan, and a physical-activity program, based on eligibility.
