Indigenous HR & Recruitment Apprentice

About the Program

Altis is pleased to open our Indigenous Apprenticeship Program to create meaningful pathways into human resources and recruitment for Indigenous Peoples seeking practical workplace experience and the skills to build a career in the field.

This hands-on learning opportunity lets you work alongside experienced HR and recruitment professionals, gain exposure to different areas of the employee and recruitment lifecycle and build skills that can support your longer-term career goals.

Previous corporate HR or recruitment experience is not required. We're interested in your potential, transferable skills, curiosity and desire to learn.

What you'll learn & do

As an HR & Recruitment Apprentice, you'll have the opportunity to:

• Drive candidate sourcing, search and recruitment activities
• Learn how to review resumes and screen candidates
• Develop foundational interviewing skills
• Support candidate communication and relationship building
• Learn about recruitment administration and reference processes
• Gain exposure to payroll and Employment Standards Act (ESA) fundamentals
• Learn about key HR practices, policies and workplace processes
• Participate in HR and recruitment projects, team meetings and training
• Develop professional communication, technology and workplace skills
• Explore career development and job-search strategies

Your experience will evolve throughout the apprenticeship based on your interests, strengths and learning goals. You'll learn through hands-on work, coaching, observation and guided training.

We're looking for an Indigenous person who is interested in building a career in HR, recruitment or a related people-focused field.

You may be a great candidate if you:

• Have a genuine interest in HR and/or recruitment
• Are curious, motivated and willing to learn
• Communicate clearly and professionally in English
• Are comfortable learning new technology and systems
• Are organized, dependable and take ownership of your work

• Have some previous work, volunteer, community, educational or other practical experience
• Want to build skills that can support your long-term career goals

We don't expect you to have a traditional corporate background. Valuable skills can come from many different experiences and pathways. We're interested in your potential and what you want to learn.

Program details

Contract: 12–14 weeks
Compensation: $22–$25/hour
Hours: 25 hours/week, with the opportunity for up to 30 hours
Schedule: Flexible; hours can be arranged around your availability and may include weekdays, evenings or weekends
Location: Fully remote within Canada
In-Person: Where feasible, we'd ideally welcome you to join us on-site for 2–3 days at the beginning of the apprenticeship to meet the team, build relationships and get to know Altis
