Job description

Amazon Web Services is hiring a Software Development Engineer III for the RDS for Oracle team. We are looking for an experienced engineer to design and build the next generation of managed database services that power mission-critical applications worldwide.

Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer II on the RDS for Oracle team, you will design and implement features that scale to millions of database instances. You will work across the stack, from kernel-level optimizations and storage architecture to customer-facing APIs and operational tooling. Your work directly impacts how enterprises run their most critical databases on AWS.

Key job responsibilities

Design and implement components of large-scale, distributed database systems using RDS Oracle in AWS cloud environments. This includes optimizing performance for high-availability and scalability, developing solutions that integrate Linux-based RDS Oracle with AWS infrastructure, and building integrations between Oracle and other AWS services such as EC2, VPC, and IAM.

Collaborate with senior engineers and stakeholders to break down complex customer requirements into well-scoped technical solutions. Work with account managers and solution architects to understand enterprise needs and translate them into technical designs. Participate in customer engagements to gather requirements and support implementations.

Deliver features through agile development cycles, prototyping, developing, and deploying database improvements. Balance speed of delivery with code quality, security, and scalability requirements. Identify opportunities for improvement in existing systems and propose solutions.

Build and improve tools for managing database performance at scale, supporting thousands of concurrent customers. This includes developing monitoring and troubleshooting tools for large-scale database deployments and implementing automation for database management tasks.

Ensure database solutions meet required security standards and compliance regulations such as FedRAMP, GDPR, and HIPAA. Follow and help refine security best practices for database management in cloud environments.

Participate in design reviews and contribute feedback on architecture, performance, and scalability. Write clear technical documentation for internal teams and customers, including runbooks, design documents, and operational guides.
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
