Job Description

ONxpress Transportation Partners (OTP) was chosen by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) to enter the Development Phase of the On-Corridor Works project – the largest project in Metrolinx’s GO Expansion. Unprecedented in its scale and complexity, this multi-billion dollar capital program will transform the GO regional rail network with electrification, more frequent service, shorter journey times and a more modernized system for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. ONxpress Operations Inc. (OOI) has been engaged by OTP to manage and oversee the efficient and effective operations and maintenance of the GO Trains and Union Pearson Express.

Accountability:

The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in installing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of HVAC systems, including furnaces, heat pumps, boilers, tankless water heaters, and air conditioning units.  As an HVAC Technician, your responsibilities will include preventative maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and providing exceptional service at OOI facilities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair tasks on HVAC systems, including furnaces, heat pumps, combi boilers, tankless water heaters, and air conditioning units, ensuring efficient and reliable operation.
  • Perform troubleshooting complex issues, interpreting blueprints, and implementing best practices.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of HVAC systems to identify deficiencies, diagnose malfunctions, and recommend necessary repairs or replacements to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards during installation, maintenance, and repair activities, prioritizing the safety of both employees and clients.
  • Interact professionally with clients to address their HVAC needs, answer inquiries, explain service options, and provide recommendations for system upgrades or enhancements.
  • Maintain accurate records of all installations, repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities, including parts used, labor hours, and client communication, utilizing digital tools and software as required. 
  • Stay abreast of industry developments, technological advancements, and emerging trends in HVAC systems through ongoing training, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
  • Must be able to document all work in CMMS, and account for all material, time and travel.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High-School Diploma, or GED.
  • Facilities Technician Certification through an accredited institution, considered an asset

Certification & Designations:

  • Mandatory G2 TSSA Certificate
  • Must hold a valid HVAC Certificate of Qualification issued by the province in which the work is performed. (e.g. 313A in Ontario)
  • Gasfitters I & II license in addition to refrigeration license, an asset
  • Working towards Building Environment Systems (BES) Operation Class 1
  • Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) considered an asset
  • Preferred G1 TSSA Certificate

Desired Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of technical and mechanical building operations experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, BAS, and Life Safety Systems in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to read blueprints related to technical areas.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 60 Lbs. and safely use ladders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must obtain and maintain necessary security/railway clearance.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.

Safety-Sensitive Positions: This role is designated Safety-Sensitive under OOI’s Fitness for Duty Policy. Applicants selected for this position will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test (as applicable) and will be subject to drug and/or alcohol testing under relevant circumstances in accordance with OOI’s Fitness For Duty Policy. Some safety sensitive positions also have additional medical testing requirements, further information will be provided during the certification process.
