Job description

Requisition ID: 261597

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

As the Director, Internal Developer Portal (IDP) at Scotiabank, you will lead the strategy, delivery, and adoption of a unified portal that streamlines how engineers discover, consume, and operate internal capabilities (services, templates, environments, documentation, and paved paths). You will partner with platform engineering, security, architecture, and product teams to reduce developer friction, improve software delivery performance, and strengthen governance through a consistent, self-service developer experience.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Portal Strategy: Define and execute the strategy for the Internal Developer Portal, including vision, roadmap, operating model, and adoption plan. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align portal capabilities with business goals and platform priorities.
  • Portal Architecture & Integrations: Design the portal’s information architecture and integration patterns across CI/CD, source control, artifact repositories, observability, ITSM, identity, and cloud platforms. Ensure the portal is scalable, resilient, and secure.
  • Golden Paths & Self-Service: Promote standardized golden paths (paved roads), templates, and self-service workflows that enable teams to build, deploy, and operate services safely and consistently. Champion automation and developer enablement across the software lifecycle.
  • Portal Governance: Establish governance frameworks for the portal including service catalog standards, ownership metadata, lifecycle controls, and audit-ready workflows. Ensure alignment with security, risk, and compliance requirements while maintaining an excellent developer experience.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, platform teams, architects, and developer communities to prioritize needs, curate content, and deliver a cohesive portal experience. Drive change management and communications to increase adoption.
  • Talent Development: Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team (product, engineering, and enablement). Mentor team members in platform product management, developer experience practices, and continuous improvement.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or developer enablement, with at least 5 years in leadership roles delivering internal platforms or products at scale.
  • Strong understanding of modern software delivery (CI/CD), cloud platforms, microservices, and the tooling ecosystem that an Internal Developer Portal integrates (e.g., identity, observability, developer tooling, and service catalogs).
  • Proven leadership experience, including building and managing teams that deliver reliable internal products and shared platforms.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and drive measurable improvements (e.g., onboarding time, deployment frequency, lead time, and developer satisfaction).
