HR Generalist – 14–15 Month Contract

Location: Shelburne, Ontario | Hybrid with Regular Plant Travel
Employment Type: Fixed-Term Contract, approximately 14–15 months
Salary: $75,000–$85,000/year
Target Start Date: Mid-to-late November 2026

About the Opportunity

Ice River Sustainable Solutions is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team on a 14–15 month fixed-term contract.

Based from our corporate office in Shelburne, Ontario, this role provides comprehensive HR support to Team Members and leaders across our Canadian operations in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Québec. You will serve as a trusted HR partner to a geographically dispersed workforce, balancing day-to-day employee support with employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, attendance and leave management, HR programs and compliance.

This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded HR professional who enjoys variety, building relationships with operational leaders and employees, and working across multiple locations rather than supporting a single office or function.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Serve as a key HR contact for Team Members and Managers across our Canadian operations, providing timely, practical and consistent HR guidance.
  • Partner closely with the Human Resources Manager to deliver day-to-day HR support across assigned locations.
  • Support employee relations matters, including employee concerns, workplace investigations, performance management and progressive discipline.
  • Coach and guide leaders through HR matters, including preparing documentation and recommending appropriate action up to and including termination or layoff.
  • Coordinate employee leaves, disability and accommodation processes, and return-to-work planning.
  • Administer the Attendance Management Program and support leaders with attendance-related matters.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation, including onboarding plans, documentation and Learning Management System training.
  • Conduct bi-weekly payroll and HRIS audits, maintain accurate employee information, and prepare regular HR metrics and reports.
  • Coordinate probationary and annual performance review processes and follow up with leaders to support meaningful and timely completion.
  • Contribute to employee engagement, communications, recognition, training, organizational change and other corporate and local HR initiatives.
  • Support the review, implementation and communication of HR policies, programs and employee handbooks across multiple Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential HR documentation, including investigation notes, employee correspondence, personnel records, exit interviews and offboarding documentation.
  • Develop strong relationships with plant leaders and employees through regular onsite presence, virtual support and proactive follow-up.
  • Interpret and apply employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, privacy and other workplace requirements across applicable provinces, escalating complex or high-risk matters when appropriate.
  • Travel regularly to Ice River locations to provide hands-on HR support to our operations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including hands-on exposure to employee relations, workplace investigations, leaves and accommodations, performance management, and policy and legislative compliance.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, multi-site or other operational environments is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and the ability to research and apply employment requirements across multiple Canadian provinces.
  • Experience using an HRIS and payroll/time-and-attendance systems; Dayforce experience is an asset.
  • CHRP designation or progress toward the designation is an asset.
  • French-language proficiency is a strong asset due to regular support of employees and leaders in Québec.
  • Strong judgement and confidence handling sensitive employee matters while maintaining professionalism, empathy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees and leaders across multiple locations and time zones.
  • Valid driver's licence, reliable transportation, and ability to travel by car and air within Canada.

Work Location & Travel

This position offers a hybrid working arrangement that combines corporate-office, plant and remote work.

The regular schedule includes working from our Shelburne corporate office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with onsite support at a Shelburne-area plant approximately once per week depending on operational needs. Remote work is generally available approximately two to three days per week, subject to business and operational requirements.

The role also supports operations outside the immediate area. Overnight travel to our locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Québec and Grafton, Ontario is required at least quarterly, with occasional additional travel depending on business needs.

Why Join Ice River?

At Ice River Sustainable Solutions, HR is closely connected to our people and our operations. This role provides an opportunity to work across a diverse Canadian manufacturing network, partner directly with leaders and employees, and contribute to both day-to-day HR operations and broader people initiatives.
