Ready to suit up as a Bridge Patrol

As a Bridge Patrol Officer , you’ll play an important role in keeping one of Halifax’s most important transportation routes safe. This is a highly visible position where professionalism, communication, sound judgment, and attention to detail are just as important as security experience.

You’ll patrol assigned areas, monitor for safety and security concerns, interact with the public and site personnel, and respond calmly and professionally when situations arise.

Responsibilities for Bridge Patrol

As a Bridge Patrol Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment through proactive patrols, monitoring, incident response, and enforcement activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular patrols of assigned bridges, surrounding areas, and designated sites
  • Monitor security systems, alarms, cameras, and other equipment for suspicious activity or safety concerns
  • Respond promptly to alarms, incidents, emergencies, and potential security threats
  • Act as a first responder and take appropriate action until emergency services arrive
  • Conduct speed enforcement and issue tickets as authorized
  • Perform by-law enforcement and control access to restricted areas
  • Verify the identity of visitors and ensure only authorized individuals access secure areas
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed incident and activity reports
  • Document suspicious activity, safety concerns, accidents, and other significant events
  • Apply professional de-escalation techniques when dealing with challenging situations
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with Police, Fire, EHS, and other emergency services
  • Perform court-related duties and provide information or testimony when required
  • Wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety boots, and other protective equipment
  • Work safely in varying and extreme weather conditions, including sun, rain, snow, high winds, and extreme temperatures
  • Identify and report security system malfunctions, vulnerabilities, or other site concerns
  • Maintain a professional and visible presence while interacting with employees, contractors, visitors, and the public
  • Maintain eligibility to obtain Peace Officer status and complete all required training

Qualifications for Bridge Patrol

We’re looking for individuals who are professional, observant, dependable, and comfortable working independently.

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Able to Obtain a Security Guard Licence
  • Valid First Aid Certification
  • Strong written communication and report-writing skills
  • Excellent observation skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and alert throughout the shift
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable interacting with employees, contractors, visitors, and members of the public
  • Comfortable using computers, mobile devices, and security technology
  • Ability to assess situations and make sound decisions
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with emergency services and team members
  • Professional customer service approach
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Continental rotating schedule
  • 2 consecutive day shifts followed by 2 consecutive night shifts
  • 12-hour shifts
  • Must be flexible to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays
