Agilus by Synergie is recruiting for a Instrumentation Engineer IV in the Oil and Gas Sector in Calgary, Alberta. The Senior Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer provides technical expertise and oversight for I&C design on liquid and natural gas pipeline and facilities projects. The role oversees designs developed by third-party engineering firms, including the Main Automation Contractor (MAC), ensuring compliance with company and industry standards, as well as project scope, budget, and schedule requirements. The position collaborates with Project Execution, Operations, Construction, Commissioning, SCADA, Control Centre, Information Technology, and Shared Services teams to ensure project requirements are incorporated into design deliverables. Total rewards: $85.00 hourly 1 year contract position Location: Calgary AB or Edmonton AB Work Model: Hybrid (Mon, Tues, Thurs in office / Weds, Fri at home) Travel: Site Travel - 25% - Must be eligible for US travel. Drivers abstract is required A typical day: Lead the overall design development and oversight of Instrumentation & Control (I&C), Measurement, IT/OT Communications, and Control Systems scope for all assigned projects. Independently represent the I&C discipline at major project milestone reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions. Plan, facilitate, and participate in control system hazard assessments, I&C-focused design reviews, control panel hardware factory acceptance testing (FAT), and software FAT activities. Actively participate in 3D model reviews, constructability reviews, outage planning activities, design reviews, Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), and third-party contractor inspections. Interface and collaborate with all I&C stakeholders, including Electrical, Mechanical, Process, and Measurement Engineering; Operations; Procurement; Commissioning; SCADA; Control Centre Operations; IT/OT Networks; Cybersecurity; Enterprise Security; and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Plan, define, and establish I&C project scope by engaging stakeholders and ensuring alignment with project objectives and operational requirements. Define scope and lead the management of Main Automation Contractors (MACs) and telecommunications service providers to ensure successful project execution and delivery. Ensure all assigned projects are designed fit-for-purpose and comply with applicable regulatory, environmental, health and safety requirements, industry codes and standards, and corporate engineering practices. Review and incorporate lessons learned from previous projects into project designs to improve safety, reliability, operability, and overall project performance. Leads and supports facility projects across the Liquids Pipeline (LP) and Gas Transmission & Midstream (GTM) business units in both Canada and the United States, Manages facility-related projects within operational assets, including Compressor Stations, Meter Stations, Cooling Facilities, Pipeline Valve Sites, Pump Stations, Storage Tanks, Terminals, and other associated facilities. Oversee the development and implementation of technical solutions, ensuring effective coordination of engineering and technical resources while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project objectives, Provides informal mentorship and technical guidance to peers, fostering knowledge sharing and supporting team development. roject Manager – Weekly to bi-weekly interaction to provide updated status on progress, cost, schedule, and risk. Supervisor Facilities Engineering – Weekly to bi-weekly interaction to provide project status update,External Engineering Firm – Daily to weekly interactions as needed to provide oversight on project design activities. SCM and Vendors – Weekly to monthly interaction to manage material requisitions and procurement cycle. Successful candidates will have: Engineering degree (Instrumentation, Electrical, Chemical, Process Controls) or equivalent experience. 10+ years of engineering and project management experience. Strong understanding of engineering deliverables and project lifecycles, Experience delivering oil & gas (liquids, natural gas) and renewable energy projects of varying sizes. Expertise in instrumentation design, specifications, sizing, procurement, and technical evaluations, Strong control systems knowledge, including C&E diagrams, alarm management, shutdown systems, control philosophies, I/O assignments, and panel design. Experience selecting, designing, testing, and commissioning control systems and network communications equipment. Familiarity with Schneider, GE Rx3i, ControlLogix, and other industrial control systems, Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to innovate, manage change, and solve complex technical and business challenges, Capable of independently managing multiple priorities and projects. Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills. Able to communicate technical issues effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
