About the Opportunity

Atura Power is one of Ontario's largest fleet operators of combined cycle natural gas plants, delivering reliable electricity today while investing in the future of energy through battery storage and other emerging technologies.

Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Affairs, the Director, Environment & External Affairs provides strategic leadership across Environment, Indigenous Relations, Stakeholder Engagement, and Regulatory Affairs. This executive leadership role is responsible for protecting Atura Power's licence to operate while enabling the organization's continued growth across both its operating assets and development portfolio.

This is a highly strategic opportunity for an accomplished leader who is equally comfortable navigating environmental regulations, government relations, Indigenous partnerships, and complex stakeholder environments. Supported by a strong team of technical experts, you will shape enterprise strategy, guide environmental permitting, influence executive decision-making, and represent Atura Power externally while working collaboratively with our parent company in building and maintaining relationships with regulators, government stakeholders, Indigenous communities, and other key external partners.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead Atura Power's environmental strategy, providing executive oversight for environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, environmental governance, and environmental risk management across operating facilities and future development projects.
• Develop and execute strategic approaches to complex environmental permitting and regulatory matters, balancing operational priorities with evolving legislative, regulatory, community, and business requirements.
• Represent Atura Power externally, working closely with our parent company to engage government ministries, regulators, Indigenous communities, municipalities, industry associations, and other key stakeholders. Build trusted relationships that support regulatory outcomes, strengthen Atura's licence to operate, and advance the organization's strategic objectives.
• Champion Indigenous Relations and stakeholder engagement strategies that strengthen partnerships, advance reconciliation commitments, and foster long-term community confidence.
• Provide executive guidance on environmental stewardship, enterprise risk, public policy matters, and external affairs, helping the organization navigate complex, high-profile issues with sound judgment, diplomacy, and credibility.
• Lead, mentor, and support experienced leaders across Environment, Health & Safety, Indigenous Relations, and Stakeholder Engagement, ensuring strategic alignment while empowering technical experts to deliver operational excellence.
• Partner closely with the Vice President, Corporate Affairs and executive leadership team to proactively identify emerging regulatory, environmental, and stakeholder risks and opportunities that may impact the business.

Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in environmental management, regulatory affairs, environmental permitting, external affairs, or a related discipline within a highly regulated industry, preferably energy, utilities, or major infrastructure.
• Demonstrated success leading complex environmental permitting and regulatory approval strategies for industrial or energy operations.
• Experience representing an organization with regulators, government ministries, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and external stakeholders while collaborating effectively across executive leadership and corporate partners.
• Strong knowledge of Ontario's environmental regulatory framework, including permitting, compliance, environmental assessment, and environmental risk management.
• Experience supporting both operating assets and major capital or development projects. Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS), renewable energy, or other emerging generation technologies is considered an asset.
• Proven ability to navigate politically sensitive issues with diplomacy, resilience, sound business judgment, and exceptional relationship management skills.
• Outstanding communication, executive presence, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence technical, operational, executive, government, and community stakeholders.
