Contributes to the overall success of the Canadian Banking Compliance (CBC) Program in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Supports the administration, governance, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Canadian Banking Compliance Program framework through execution of Regulatory Library Management, Regulatory Change Management, compliance assessments, issues management, governance reporting, OpenPages book of record maintenance, training, and other program oversight activities.

 

What You'll Do

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
    • Protects the Bank and supports client primacy through  effective administration, governance, and oversight of the Canadian Banking Compliance Program.
    • Leverages Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge to enhance risk identification and continuously improve the CBC Program.
  • Supports strategies and initiatives to strengthen, enhance, and continuously improve the effectiveness, sustainability, and maturity of the CBC Program.
  • Supports key CB Compliance Program activities by:
    • Conducting Regulatory Library Management (RLM), Regulatory Change Management, Compliance Risk and Control Assessment (CRCA), Compliance Issues Management, and OpenPages governance activities, including maintenance of regulatory inventories, assessments, issues, action plans, books of record, and supporting documentation.
    • Supporting Global Regulatory Relations (GRR) activities, including responses to regulatory enquiries, information requests (RFIs), examinations, reviews, and other regulatory oversight activities.
    • Preparing governance committee reporting, management reporting, presentations, metrics, analyses, and program updates; performing analysis of compliance program data, assessments, issues, and remediation activities to identify trends, gaps, emerging risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
    • Completing program effectiveness reviews, framework enhancements, data quality assessments, and other assigned projects.
    • Contributing to the sustainment of the CBC Program through the development and maintenance of Handbooks, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Playbooks, training materials, working papers, reports, governance documentation, Business Continuity Planning (BCP) activities, and other program documentation as required.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with stakeholders and business partners to support an integrated risk framework, including participation in discussions on regulatory obligations, regulatory developments, Bank policies and procedures, compliance program requirements, governance activities, and program initiatives.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What You Bring

  • 4 years of experience in compliance, risk management, audit, regulatory governance, regulatory change management, or related financial services functions.
  • University or college education in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Compliance, Law, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting compliance program, risk management, governance, and regulatory activities within a financial services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian banking regulations, compliance frameworks, governance processes, and risk management principles.
  • Experience with OpenPages or comparable governance platforms.
  • Experience developing and maintaining governance documentation, procedures, and training materials.
  • Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
