What you will be doing...

As the College & Career Prep Coordinator, Office of L'nu Student Success, you will:

  • Support prospective, applicant, and graduating Mi'kmaq and Indigenous students as they navigate key educational and career transitions.
  • Provide culturally responsive guidance and outreach that promotes student confidence, belonging, readiness, and success.
  • Assist applicants in understanding admission requirements, completing pre-entry assessments, meeting program milestones, and preparing academically, personally, and financially for college.
  • Help students access financial resources and supports, including student loans, band funding, scholarships, bursaries, awards, childcare resources, and other community-based supports.
  • Build strong relationships with Mi'kmaq communities, students, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community organizations, and campus partners to support student transitions and success.
  • Use career development principles to help students explore career options, affirm program choices, understand labour market opportunities, and align educational decisions with career goals.
  • Coordinate and promote student engagement initiatives, including Get Started activities, Test Drives, campus tours, career fairs, industry networking opportunities, workshops, and other transition programming.
  • Deliver workshops and coaching related to career readiness, including résumé development, interview preparation, professional communication, workplace expectations, and employability skills.
  • Support graduating students in preparing for employment, apprenticeships, further education, and career advancement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with employers and industry partners to strengthen employment opportunities and enhance student awareness of career pathways.
  • Advocate for equitable access to educational and employment opportunities and help address barriers affecting student success.
  • Develop and maintain resources, tools, and reports that support college readiness, career planning, and student success outcomes.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience

  • Community College diploma in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Social Services, Community Studies, Recreation Leadership, Non-Profit Leadership, or another related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum three years of experience supporting students, clients, or community members in education, employment, career development, student services, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Lived experience as a member of the Mi'kmaq/Indigenous community
  • Experience working directly with Mi'kmaq and Indigenous students, communities, organizations, and partners is strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering workshops, presentations, coaching, or group facilitation.
  • Experience supporting students with career planning, transition services, financial literacy, or educational navigation would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with student financial assistance programs, Indigenous funding supports, and community-based resources would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Copilot.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to communities, campuses, and events as required.

  • Applies a student-centred, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approach to support services.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills.
  • Is comfortable working independently while collaborating across departments and campuses.
  • Has strong judgment and maintains appropriate confidentiality when working with sensitive student information.
  • Is committed to equity, inclusion, accessibility, and lifelong learning.
  • Is comfortable working in a digital environment and committed to using technology to enhance the student experience.

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a part-time adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. The salary scale for Professional Support 3 is based on steps that range from $74,712.27 - $93,456.74. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $81,859.58 annually.

This is a designated competition open only to candidates from the Mi'kmaq/Indigenous Community.
