Are you a creative and detail-oriented communications professional with a passion for visual storytelling in both official languages? The French Multimedia Designer/Publisher plays a key role in developing, designing, and producing high-quality French-language publications and multimedia products that effectively communicate information to diverse audiences.

Reporting to the Manager, Document Production and Design, the French Multimedia Designer/Publisher plays a pivotal role in ensuring that all French-language provincial assessments, including Diploma Exams, Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs), Literacy and Numeracy screening assessments, the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) test, field tests, and related documents, are produced in formats that are fully aligned with Provincial Assessment Sector standards. This role ensures that French materials accurately reflect linguistic, pedagogical, and grade-level considerations specific to francophone and French immersion students. As provincial assessments transition to a digital platform, the French Multimedia Designer/Publisher is essential in guaranteeing that French assessments are presented with precision and consistency in both paper and digital formats, while leveraging emerging technologies to support assessment development.

The French Multimedia Designer/Publisher also produces and updates a wide range of French-language documents, such as information bulletins, student guides, and data booklets. The role maintains records of field-test statistics, including student feedback and responses specific to French administrations. Working under tight deadlines, the position safeguards both the security and the quality of French digitial and paper versions of secure provincial assessments. The role requires strong independent work as well as effective collaboration with editors, other multimedia publishers, test and exam leads, examiners, and additional staff. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and using advanced features in applications such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and the Digital Assessment Platform, as well as performing manual HTML coding when necessary. The position emphasizes client focus, creativity, communication, strategic thinking, teamwork, innovation, and initiative, all within the context of delivering high‑quality French‑language assessment materials.

Key Responsibilities Include:

1. Provide specialized French language multimedia design and publishing services for both print and digital versions of Provincial Achievement Tests, Diploma Examinations, Literacy and Numeracy screening assessments, CAEC tests, field tests, data booklets, information bulletins, and other assessment documents. Ensure that all French materials reflect accurate linguistic usage, appropriate grade‑level language, and alignment with francophone and French immersion expectations.
2. Produce high-quality French-language artwork for print and digital versions of provincial assessments, field tests, data booklets, information bulletins, and various ad hoc documents. Ensure that all artwork supports accurate and culturally appropriate representation for francophone and French immersion learners.
3. Develop additional multimedia design and publishing support for French program areas as a primary focus, while also supporting English program areas as required.
4. Assist and advise colleagues in solving technical challenges involving advanced features of software such as InDesign, Acrobat, MS Word, the Digital Assessment Platform, Excel, and HTML, particularly when preparing French content.
5. Participate actively in reviewing and refining unit processes and procedures through unit, branch, and collaborative meetings.
6. The French Multimedia Designer/Publisher must be able to liaise effectively in French with technical support staff, editors, art staff, Provincial Assessment test and examination leads, and examiners to address multimedia‑publishing needs while ensuring that all French‑language documents adhere to established formatting and design standards.
7. In all matters related to processes, hardware, software, or document formatting and layout, the French Multimedia Designer/Publisher must demonstrate strong creativity, teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills. This includes identifying issues that arise specifically in the development of French assessment materials, such as layout challenges, language‑specific formatting needs, functional display differences, and design constraints. The French Multimedia Designer/Publisher must be able to assess root causes and propose, refine, and implement solutions collaboratively with colleagues across the Provincial Assessment Sector.
8. The French Multimedia Designer/Publisher must also be able to work across multiple technology environments used to produce French‑language assessment content, including Adobe Creative Cloud applications, Microsoft Office, the Digital Assessment Platform, related technologies, and legacy online‑testing systems. The role requires the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in any of these environments to ensure that French digital and print assessments meet the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, accessibility, and presentation.

Qualifications

Two-year diploma in a related field ; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

•    Experience with graphic arts, illustration, HTML, computer science, coding, multimedia.
•    French language proficiency is strongly preferred, along with proficiency in English. Official certification/training is not required.

Two-year diploma in a related field ; or equivalent as described below.

1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

• Participate actively in reviewing and refining unit processes and procedures through unit, branch, and collaborative meetings
• Ability to work in English is an asset to support effective communication, collaboration, and production.
• Partners with IT support staff, systems analysts, and other technical specialists who provide software and hardware assistance, ensuring that all tools required for producing high‑quality French‑language materials function effectively
• Maintain direct communication with the Production Leader, the Rights and Permissions Coordinator, the Manager of Document Production and Design, various unit Directors, and other Alberta Education and Childcare staff involved in the assessment process.
• Collaborates directly with test and exam leads, as well as examiners who create French‑language assessment materials, to troubleshoot layout and formatting issues, respond to questions, and proofread documents for accuracy before they are transferred to other members of the Document Production and Design team and to editors. Focus on multimedia publishing responsibilities compared to artwork.

This is (1) one full-time position, working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
