We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join a collaborative Database Engineering team supporting a large, highly regulated organization. In this role, you will lead the evolution of enterprise database services across cloud and hybrid environments, helping deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions that support critical business operations.
Working alongside Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Application Development teams, you will play a key role in driving modernization initiatives, improving automation, and strengthening operational excellence. Your Responsibilities
You'll lead the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of enterprise Microsoft SQL Server platforms across Azure, GCP, and hybrid environments (primarily Azure)
You'll drive database modernization initiatives, including migrations from on-premises SQL Server environments to Azure SQL managed services.
You'll oversee database availability, performance, security, backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning, and capacity management for mission-critical systems.
You'll develop Infrastructure as Code and automation solutions using PowerShell, Terraform, Azure DevOps, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and Database DevOps practices.
You'll establish enterprise standards, governance, monitoring, and operational excellence while leading performance tuning and root cause analysis.
You'll mentor database professionals and collaborate closely with cross-functional technology teams to deliver secure and reliable database services.
Skills and Qualifications
10+ years of progressive SQL Server administration experience in large enterprise environments, including 5+ years supporting Azure database services and cloud platforms.
Deep expertise with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Azure Virtual Machines, and backup and recovery technologies.
Experience administering and supporting Oracle databases, including monitoring, patching, backup and recovery, and performance troubleshooting (asset)
Strong background in database security, governance, compliance, and supporting regulated environments, including SOX and HIPAA requirements.
Hands-on experience with PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and automation frameworks.
Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Agile methodologies, and enterprise operational best practices.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate certification is considered an asset.
