Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of Canadian Banking Finance, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Support month-end reporting activities, forecasting and planning for net interest income and balance sheet; work closely with other teams in Canadian Banking Finance to provide variance analysis and identify drivers of performance; maintain and improve forecast models, and prepare monthly, quarterly and yearly management reports to facilitate executive decision-making
  • Provide weekly updates to leadership and business partners on the Canadian Banking balance sheet portfolio trends, market rates and economic data
  • Play a key role in the roll-out of Anaplan, including performing UAT, ensuring data reconciliation in multiple sources, and developing forecast models and reports in the platform
  • Assist in operational and production activities, including support, review and assessment of the reasonability of assumptions/commentary including balance sheet & profitability analysis, forecasting, Enterprise-Wide Stress Testing (EWST)
  • Assist in developing financial projections & models to forecast the profitability of the Canadian Bank from a top-down perspective, which will include interpreting financial data across business lines/product areas and incorporating the most recent economic information, in order to provide timely guidance towards achieving the Canadian Bank’s longer-term financial performance targets
  • Support stakeholder relationship management and provide key forecast inputs to business partners, including business lines, product groups, Global Risk Management, Treasury, Capital Management and EO Finance
  • Maintain an effective system of internal controls over the planning, forecasting and reporting processes for interest profit and ensure that any EUC requirements and SOX controls are addressed
  • Leverage digital solutions to seek ways to enhance the balance sheet and interest profit planning and forecasting processes by streamlining operational and analytical processes, reducing operational risk, improving effectiveness, and resolving issues related to data consistency among various systems and processes
  • Support competitive analysis on the Canadian banking industry and conduct review and analysis of earnings releases to help provide recommendations that will enhance the Canadian Bank’s financial results
  • Provide additional resourcing and ad-hoc modeling and support for special projects during periods of peak demand
  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline
  • MBA, CFA, MFin or CPA or progress towards a designation preferred
  • Minimum 2 to 4 years of relevant experience at a financial institution
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends
  • Experience with financial systems (e.g. Hyperion, Anaplan, OBI)
  • Proficiency in data visualization and creating impactful financial dashboards; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and any other analytical tools are preferred (e.g. Power BI, Python, Alteryx)
  • Knowledge of Canadian Banking products is considered an asset
