An opportunity exists in Stantec's Ottawa, ON office for a highly motivated Junior Mechanical Fuels Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role you will be working within a mechanical engineering team towards the design and execution of projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on industrial, healthcare, commercial and educational projects.

Responsibilities:

As the successful candidate, your responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Completing work under the supervision and guidance of a senior engineer.

  • Assisting in the design of fuel systems including diesel generator fuel systems, bulk tank farms, and fuel dispensing stations using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials.

  • Assisting in fuels compliance audits and reporting.

  • Preparing detailed engineering design calculations.

  • Preparing contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction.

  • Producing mechanical drawings in REVIT MEP and in AutoCAD.

  • Writing reports analyzing mechanical problems and providing engineering solutions and recommendations.

  • Reviewing equipment selections, perform preliminary engineering calculations, and develop preliminary designs.

  • Facilitating and ensure the quality of the project deliverables.

  • Following production guidelines and project standards to Stantec and Client drafting guidelines.

  • Reviewing shop drawings and other contractor submittals for compliance with construction documents.

  • Performing field surveys for drawing developments, site reviews and as recorded drawings.

  • Communicating with other team members and become familiar with Stantec standards to complete assignments and projects in a timely manner as required by the Project Manager and Discipline Lead.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Knowledge of fuels systems and design is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of Hydronics, Plumbing, Controls, and Fire Protection systems and their design is considered an asset.

  • Eligible to apply for and receive PSPC Secret Clearance is required. Existing PSPC Secret or Reliability Clearance status is considered an asset.

  • A working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP drafting and designing project documents is considered an asset.

  • A working knowledge of building-related mechanical systems is considered an asset.

  • Experience in IES Energy Modeling software is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with National and Ontario Building Codes, and with associated standards, is considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated technical writing skills; capable of writing reports, letters, and technical specifications.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and staff; a “team player” approach.

  • Self-motivated and self-starter with a strong work ethic.

  • Good time management skills and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Eager to learn with strong listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong English verbal and writing skills are required. French language skills are considered an asset.

  • Ability to travel within Canada may be required.

Education and Experience

Preference for a minimum of 1 year of design experience in a consulting engineering environment with strong knowledge and experience with building electrical systems preferred.

Pay Range:

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$67,100.00 - $93,900.00 Annually
