What you will be doing…

This position is responsible for identifying, coordinating and conducting institutional research and/or reporting for internal and external stakeholders of NSCC. At any time, this position could focus on surveys, reporting or a combination of both.

Under the general direction of the Senior Manager, Institutional Research and Effectiveness, this position will:

  • Lead research and/or survey initiatives and projects that advance the strategic direction of the department and College;
  • Conduct and coordinate the analysis, collection, distribution, and/or reporting of key institutional datasets;
  • Identify and lead the design, administration, and reporting of institutional surveys
  • Respond to institutional and external information requests for information on a timely basis
  • Identify and coordinate the development and dissemination of statistical and analytical research to support strategic decision making and planning;
  • Lead environmental scanning and trend research to inform planning processes and decisions.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a bachelor's degree or diploma in any relevant discipline with a data and/or analytical focus.
  • You have a minimum of three (3) years direct experience in data mining delivering meaningful, timely and accurate reporting using large data sets, and conducting analyses of data to aid in key decision-making processes.
  • Experience with Power BI, including development of interactive dashboards and data visualization, and working with DAX and Power Query to support data preparation, transformation and analysis.
  • Experience writing reproducible code in Python (e.g., Pandas) or R for data extraction, cleaning, transformation and analysis would be considered a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft (Student Administration), including experience using PS Query, and the ability to locate, extract, and interpret student and institutional data would be an asset.
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets from institutional systems to support reporting and analysis.
  • Proficient in Windows-based computer applications including all Microsoft Office applications, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., complex formulas, PivotTables, data cleaning and transformation).
  • Experience with social/educational research methods and statistical analysis to produce quality, accurate, reliable, timely and user-friendly reports; experience with analysis tools such as SPSS, R/Python or equivalent would be a strong asset.
  • Experience providing validation, data visualization and interpretation of results.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.

Relevant Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of current trends in evaluating the student experience and learning-centered practices in community college education
  • Knowledge of and experience with survey design, administration and analysis; experience with survey platforms such as Explorance Blue, Blue-X, or Qualtrics, would be an asset
  • Ability to analyze and assess technical and operational data, generate reports using databases and standard statistical methods, and collect, verify and manipulate research data
  • Effective writing and presentation skills and the ability to translate complex technical and statistical information into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences
  • Superb presentation, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize competing deadlines and deliver high-quality outputs in a complex working environment
  • Ability to build and sustain working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (individuals and groups)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in planning, executing and completing tasks
  • Ability to ensure accuracy of work, take initiative, exercise sound judgement, and work independently to meet deadlines
