Plans and undertakes condition assessment inspections of the asset base. Performs inspections and compliance audits in support of the environmental management program. Provides technical input for program planning, project planning, and, long-range capital planning. Produces tender-ready sketches and specifications for non-complex projects, in consultation with a senior project engineer or senior project technologist. Work environment Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) develops and delivers policies and programs that support Canada’s economic, ecological, and scientific interests in oceans and inland waters. The Small Craft Harbours Program (SCH) supports Canada’s commercial fishing industry by maintaining a national network of safe, accessible harbours. SCH works closely with local harbour authorities and partners to manage, maintain, and improve harbour infrastructure that is essential to fishing communities across the country. Intent of the process The intent of this process is to staff the below immediate vacancies: - One term (temporary) appointment in Burlington, Ontario - One term (temporary) appointment in Winnipeg, Manitoba - One term (temporary) appointment in Sept-Îles, Quebec This process may also be used to fill similar positions with various tenures (term, indeterminate, acting, secondment, deployment), language requirements and security requirements in Fisheries and Oceans across Canada. Conditions of Employment - Work Overtime - Travelling within the Region of the job position, including to remote locations by various modes of transportation (e.g. small and large aircraft, all terrain vehicles, boats, helicopter, etc.). - Possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license - Navigating rough terrain, port infrastructure and construction sites in harsh weather conditions (cold, wind, rain, snow) - Driving a Light Truck You need (essential for the job) Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following Education Technical College diploma (post-secondary or CEGEP) in civil engineering technology, architectural technology, construction management, surveying or any other related field. Experience - Experience in providing technical support, engineering advice and consulting services in support of the construction, maintenance or repair of civil or marine infrastructure. - Experience in supervising construction, maintenance or repair of civil or marine infrastructure. - Experience in inspecting and assessing the condition of infrastructure. Applied / assessed at a later date Knowledge - General knowledge of construction, standards and technologies for construction. - Knowledge of the usual investigation and inspection practices and procedures in the context of a construction, maintenance or repair projects of infrastructure.
